One of the few instances where pretending videogames haven't changed since the 80s worked and worked well.

You are wrong. Besides, in this case it's obvious that the writers are aware of newer games, but choosing to focus on older ones for the sake of not losing half the audiance.

Well, considering when this was made it would probably be bunch of Crash Bandicoot and Pokemon jokes if they had stuck to modern games. At least with sticking to older games that are universally recognized they made sure it would remain relevant rather than dated in the next few years.

i like futurama, and i like old video games. but this was not funny at all (except possibly for his all-Rush mixtape)
