If you were to watch the sequence without MST3K to put it in your mind that Buzz teleported, it would just look like a mundane film splice. I suspect that's the mistake you're making: you're not buying into the premise that Buzz is just appearing out of nowhere. And the punchline is, he's such a third wheel nobody even cares.

I've seen that episode at least three times and I still can't figure out who the hell that guy was.
