Earning a living wage at unskilled labor and feeling proud of that while being abused by hooting jackasses who think you're trash. Lifting your children up, educating them, so that one day they may stand on an equal level with a bunch of waterheads who were born that way and are proud of it. I guess that's what we call... America (patriotic music.)
Please do not leave out that those "hooting jackasses" are also white people in there early twenties to thirties from middle to upper class income brackets. i think this video says a lot of underlying things.
ZawBanjito, I'm gonna second you on that one. I'm proud to live in a country where there can be so many problems, but through all of it there's always a way to better yourself and make a life for you and your family.
The second half of the video was sad, but it's true: America's still a land of opportunity, no matter what your color, and that makes me proud.
Land of opportunity? Always a way to better yourself? Were we watching the same thing? All I saw were working people eeking out a living being abused by drunk college pricks. Sure this job may pay better than many service sector jobs but this is more of an indictment of how bad the other jobs pay. Sure they may earn close to a living wage but I highly doubt it is enough to pull them out of poverty.
The analytic philosophers at the University of Chicago always go and get themselves photographed in front of the sign out front, making a "Weiner Kreiss"/"Vienna Circle" pun. They don't go in, though. Now I see why.
TAL is all about white people discovering that the rest of the country isn't exactly like the suburbs and then being shocked and horrified by it.
Was this the restaurant used in the Sopranos episode where Christopher meets Massive Genius? I'm aware Chicago is not next door to Jersey, I'm just wondering if maybe one of the producers was a fan of the place. Now I have to get the DVD and look.
