Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-02-22
Holy fucking shit.
So, could the genetically huge outcome be the result of dormant genes from thousands of years ago, when cats were much larger and dominated Eurasia, etc?

They are also, thankfully, sterile
|
dead_cat - 2008-02-22 The males are. It's somewhat rare, but female ligers have been successfully bred - though not to the males, obviously.

I'm wondering what would win in a fight a liger or a Kodiak grizzly.

Smellvin - 2008-02-22
What's a liger?
It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

That's... hard to describe

Udderdude - 2008-02-22
OMG not another cat video. 1 star.
|
Smellvin - 2008-02-22 This makes me wonder why there is no CATegory for videos.

StanleyPain - 2008-02-22
Ligers are interesting, no doubt. Not sure I want to be sitting and petting a fucking full grown tiger AND a liger though. Man's got balls.

You're a good boy!

Now, I am going to have to change all the drawings on my trapper-keeper.

I want one of these. I want 3 of these. And I want a saddle so I can ride around on it. And if anyone is in my way, it will just eat through them without stopping like that ball in Critters 3.

Holy crap. I know about ligers in a vague, read-a-couple-snippest-in-SciAm sense, but I never knew they were so fucking BIG. That kitty's a bouncer!

Five just for the happy tiger/liger headbutts at the end. Best friends forever!

You're a GOOD boy!! Don't eat me...
Five stars for science TOTALLY kicking nature's ass!

Tions are bred from male tigers and female lions.

I've met one of these in person. It stood on its hind legs and measured 11 feet. The best part is on a wooden floor, it stretched its front legs and then pulled back while digging its claws into the floor. Hunks of wood the size of small boards flew everywhere. The trainer said "Yeah, he does that and there's not a lot we can do about it." When you're that size everything is a scratching post.

WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME THEY WERE THIS BIG!?!
I wasted three decades of my life NOT KNOWING LIGERS WERE THIS BIG.
GODDAMMIT.

When I was a kid, the local zoo had a liger. I remember how huge the thing was. It was one of the big attractions at the time.

Wait, wait wait wait ... wait.
So this animal grows bigger than either of its parents? I thought it was impossible -- ARE CREATIONISTS WRONG?
Kitties = (: but unnaturally breeding hybrids = ):

Stopheles - 2008-02-23
Now we need one for Spel Delfin...

Extra stars for the preload image looking like an illustration from Jehovah's Witness "literature" about paradise. It's just missing multi-ethnic people picking fruit.
