I've read that Ann Coulter is actually a really nice person off camera. A lot of the people she publicly attacked ended up having private conversations with her later, and reported that she was the very model of courtesy.

I think that sort of cognitive disconnect between a private and public persona is even more creepy and unnerving than just being a fulltime asshole.

Having met both Ann Coulter and Michelle Maulkin in person (Coulter, she came to my university for some stupid convention thing we were having, Maulkin was at my company's national convention with some family members), Coulter wasn't half the bitch she is when a camera is rolling in her direction. Ms. Maulkin, on the other hand, is a genuine fucking psycho.

On MSNBC's homepage, right now (still), is an article about Barack Obama not wearing a flag pin in his lapel, and how that makes him unpatriotic. The only indication I've seen of a liberal media bias on the other news networks is hearing Fox News (mostly O'Reilly) shouting about it.

The phrase "festival of ignorance" was worth at least half a chuckle.

If this is actually an argument for why Fox News isn't more outrageous than any purported "news source" on television you are even more of a total idiot than I thought.

Fox News does get directives from the government, it is a vastly controlled propoganda machine and everyone who works for them should die of ebola.

Fox News is for idiots, is lowering the standards of journalism and political discourse in this country, and has a thinly-veiled contempt for its own audiance.

CNN and MSNBC do conservative-leaning stuff all the time and you know it. The fact that McCain's bashing the New York Times over the lobbyist story was more widely reported than the story itself is proof enough, not to mention the fact that they continue to employ Glenn Beck and Tucker Carlson, respectively, despite both their shows being in the ratings toilet.

So this isn't about liberal vs. conservative. It has to do with real journalism vs. illiterate lowest-common-denominator horseshit delivered at a 1st grade level.

Fox News ISN'T good news. It's biased and controlled and bad for democracy, but it's just in a direction other than left, which is why it gets all the negative publicity and outcry. Whenever liberals hear a bunch of bullshit from Michael Moore, suddenly the word "propaganda" isn't so infuriating. Same shit happens with all the other sources.

...Do you ever take the time to actually watch Fox News? The tactics used are radically different from more moderate stations.

While I'll happily be one of the first liberals in line to say that the 300 was a more accurate documentary than Sicko, holding Michael Moore to the same standard as a leading national news network who's slogan is "fair and balanced" ain't gonna fly.

Fox isn't even BAD news. It is entertainment at its best and propaganda at its worst, but it isn't anything I'd call "news".

Actually, Billy, that was expected. It's stage three of the Classic Fox News Conservative Backpeddle. Start with "Fox News is awesome and not biased" move on to "Fox News is biased but that's okay because OMG LIBERAL MEDIA" continue on to "BUT MICHAEL MOORE" and land on "Well at least they didn't air a false story like Dan Rather." At every step, the argument is about deflecting attention from Fox because no one has ever been able to win a Fox News argument by arguing its merits.

But who says it was mandated? Knowing the Midwest, it's equally likely that the Suits tried to put on CNN but were overpowered by a seething horde of employees demanding Bill O'Reilly. I know everyone who watches Fox News is dumb, bigoted, and naive, unlike us clever liberals, but that doesn't mean they don't genuinely like to watch Fox News.
