Also, subtext alert: Bato and Kusanagi have an unacknowledged thing for each other, which is possibly supressed due to their both being post-human.

Also: I'm not ususally one to nerd out about such things, either in movies or real life, but Batou's gun at the end of the clip is FUCKING BADASS. Bullets the size of a fire extinguisher!

Great art and great directing. I thoroughly enjoy it when a cartoon, anime or not, can mix wild visuals with a realistic sense of proportion. It's a shame because 99% of anime does not have that. All of its talent is squandered making thoughtless and repetitive crap. I could do without the highly exaggerated movements, quivering facial expressions, tentacles or wavy-lined "ohmygodthisdudeisflyingthroughtheair" action shots. Seriously Japan, get laid and lay off the caffeine.

I saw this movie when I was around 7 or 8.

Man that was a liberating experience.

-1 for bad voice acting. For all I know, the original Japanese was just as bad, but at least subtitles mask it.

What was the point of her over stressing her body and ripping it to shreds? Beyond needing her helpless in the next sequence, the whole thing is stupid.

In the cybernetic future they can hook up brains to robot bodies and the internet with a quick surgery but don't have a built in warning indicators when whatever retarded thing the cyborg is trying to pull off is going to totally fuck up their shit?

The greatness of these films is tempered somewhat by my knowledge of the horrid, horrid comics they derive from.

Great animation, and a great setting–and yet somehow burningly, intensely, boring. Nothing happens, nothing continues to happen, long non sensical exposition of some really simple idea, some violence, nothing happens again, the end.

The series, however, it just completely unwatchably horrible.

The best scene in the film; gets -1 star for being attached to a 20 minute scene of horribly boring low-grade philosohpical exposition (aka the boat scene).

Why do so many fucking jerks insist on rating the context of clips? Or the genre? Or the medium?

If you like action movies, or anime, or robots or fucking water effects this sequence is awesome. Get over yourself.

I was sorely tempted to dock this a star because it marks the point that an entire generation went "Oh wow animes!" and we all know what followed.

But then I watched it and realized the Major's voice actress sounds uncannily like Angel Cop. And that's a neat concept!

I found this movie pretty dull. I always fast forward to this scene which is where shit finally starts to happen. A few more scenes like this and the movie would have been liked by more than just critics.

If you had played the music from that scene out of context for me I would never have imagined that it came from a scene with a naked cyborg fighting a spider tank.

Also: Heavy vs. Spy.

Borborygmus, TheMcK, and Adramelech are full of truth and justice.

Although what FABIO2 says above is true also. This scene is canon in the Cartoon Cyborg Muscle Woman Dismemberment Gun Fetish community. Tell 'em, Caminante!

First anime I got on VHS =)

I love the movie, but the show is way better. Still 5 stars.
