See also the RepRap project, the goal of which is to make a 3D printer capable of printing out a functionally identical 3D printer.

Dicknuts - 2008-04-29

It has come to our attention that one or more of the staff has been using the 3D printer to make penises, and has been hiding them throughout the office.

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-04-29

Totally awesome, I watched this video many times today at work.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-04-29

I'M BUYIN' ONE OF THESE AND MAKIN' ME A WIFE!

chumbucket - 2008-04-30

good luck with that Anthony Michael Hall

Camonk - 2008-04-29

End of the story: this is the most awesome thing I've ever seen. I want a hundred of them, and I don't do shit with 3-D. Yet, I mean. Obviously I would start.

charmlessman - 2008-04-29

I am buying one of these and printing out my own fully functional Iron Man armor.
What better use can there be?

Walt Henderson - 2008-04-29

Custom made babes, obviously.

DrVital - 2008-04-29

The "Powder" is actually made from the ground souls of innocent children.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-04-29

ohhh i see the star wars and warhammer dorks drooling already

SharoKham - 2008-04-29

Counterfeiting Warhammer figures with a homemade mold and molten metal is already cheaper than buying the fucking things. Peeing Calvin's days as the king of bootlegged horribly middle American shit is numbered.

This technology is coming along nicely, and it seems like every year or so it gets much more impressive than the last.

Of course, the real turning point will be when these things can build circuits and can fabricate their own repair/replacement parts. (Not that it'd make things magically cheaper or whatever since the raw materials will still be pretty expensive, it's just that it'd signify the point when these things can become a complete end-to-end prototyping system.)

fluffy - 2008-04-29

Oops, forgot to rate it.

Incidentally, there's a company which lets you send in files to be printed (they're oriented towards making figurines of your 3D avatars but they also support SketchUp files and probably a few other things). For anyone who cares about that thing. http://www.fabjectory.com/

sosage - 2008-04-29

theSnake - 2008-04-29

But can it print a man's Soul?

Shion - 2008-04-30

If you can import a man's soul into solidworks I'm sure it could.

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-05-03

Just one step closer to FOOD TORRENTS
