This doesn't really prove anything either way, but five stars for James Randi EVERY TIME!!!

DerangedGoblin - 2008-05-29

There was once a man who said "James Randi is the motherfucking bomb. Could his presentations be any goddamn better?!"

At which point Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie were introduced in the mix.

glasseye - 2008-05-29

Kooky mystical garbage shows that it's pure bullshit once again.

If only they'd do the same thing with christianity...

baleen - 2008-05-29

This is sort of paradise for me.

I don't know, I didn't like this one. The problem with astrology is it's so vague and useless it's impossible to prove wrong-- because it's not saying anything substantive in the first place. So what you have is an astrologer going, "I'm right! Look, I said you have humor!" and a skeptic going, "You're wrong! I am neither intelligent nor humorous!" with neither person really dipping into objective reality.

Randi rules. If only he got half the attention the crackpots get.

Comeuppance - 2008-05-29

Extraordinary claims will always get more attention that the guy in the back proving him wrong.

I guess what I don't like about this is that Randy seems to think he's dealt a blow to astrology. But you can find ridiculous people to represent any field you want. And while tearing them apart and revealing them to be crackpots is fun, it's not proving anything.

Do a study of many thousands of random people with an even distribution of birthdays looking for traits that astrology claims should be present. Publish your findings and look for statistically significant variations.

Anyway, I can still enjoy this burning man of straw.

boner - 2008-05-29

You can't really do that on TV and expect people to watch. So this is just entertainment even if the intentions are good.

TinManic - 2008-05-30

oh. you believe in astrology. how awkward.

Blaise - 2008-05-29

Convinced James Randi is also Dr. Demento.

Blaise - 2008-05-29

Also, maybe the Astrologist was giving Dr. House's Horoscope.

Bort - 2014-03-05

I'm not convinced that the astrologist did that badly. I'm not saying he has any supernatural insight either, just that a lot of Laurie's denials don't ring true. He doesn't enjoy the limelight and he's not an extrovert, yet he's an actor and a comedian -- that's a peculiar field for someone who shies away from the public. And, Laurie's got a better claim to a sense of humor than most.
