I suspect part of him WANTED to enjoy it, but that it just wasn't the game for him - and not because it was a JRPG, but because it was a genuinely awkward game.

People kept telling me this game was awesome and I know it got 9's in every review, but I still had to stop playing it after a few hours. Supremely awkward combat, and a main character even less likable then that mute kid from FFVIII.

PS Yahtzee, the reason for the abrupt change in personality is because the main character recovers his memory after the first act. I'd be pretty emo too if I couldn't remember anything prior to waking up dead.
