This movie is a modern-day masterpiece for real. I've watched it five or six times, and I appreciate it more each time.

Really? I've always felt Lynch's deal is, like, make things that are incomprehensible and let the audience, by and large, play the largest role in constructing the meaning of the thing. Which, I mean, there's a lot to be said for that, but you must, at the end of the day, acknowledge it for what it is and not ascribe to at a huge amount of brilliance to the artist. Then again, it's entirely possible I just don't get it.

Five stars anyways; this scene is fairly profoundly badass.

NO! AY! BANDA!!!

IT IS ALL...a tape recording.

Seriously though, it's a shame the movie falls completely apart after this scene and people still try to convince themselves it's something other than Lynch trying to desperately save his failed pilot.

I can't find the Kevin Smith article where he is driving home from seeing Mulholland Drive and he can't understand it for the life of him, and then his wife sums it up in one sentence. Some don't know what a struggle it is to be a geek and lack any taste or sense, only able to evaluate a work of fiction according to your mega-childhood and objective factors like market forces.

for one thing, this is a beautiful song. it's also an amazing scene. i agree the mulholland drive unfortunately falls apart after this scene, but the movie as a whole has that brilliant aura of the supernatural/mystical that Lynch can magically instill into film. the movie is also a great portrayal of hollywood/la itself. i like to imagine that in some god-forsaken area of la, there is a place like this nightclub open at 4 a.m. i'd have to disagree that all of lynch's work is incomprehensible. Blue Velvet and Elephant Man are pretty coherent and even Twin Peaks has a fairly clear plot outline.

Sorry, this movie sucks. I usually don't like to sum it up so simplistically, but this is the kind of movie that makes me wish I had my hour and a half back so I could waste it on something else - like intense masturbation.
