Keep calling it stupid like a mantra. Maybe it'll become true.

Hey, here's a question. Why would God create something knowing it would betray Him? And here's a followup question. If God created man, knowing man would betray Him, how is man's eventual betrayal their fault?

And a final point. A bible doesn't know things. It is a book.

Hooker - 2008-08-08

Yes, that's what a straw man argument is.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-08

Clearly a flawless example, wasn't it?

wtf japan - 2008-08-08

How can this kid not know what a straw man argument is? He's the fucking KING of straw. And Jewiness. Which is also ironic.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2008-08-08

"A strawman argument is when you make up an argument on behalf of your opposition that has nothing to do with the point you're trying to make, and, by somehow... you by refuting the official [sic?] argument that you made up on their behalf you somehow defeated their position"

Which is close, but is easier to just say "its a misrepresentation of an opponent's position."

But then he goes on to say:

"A strawman argument would be like this: Do you have a mom or a dad? Well you probably do. Well I'm going to say that you don't have a mom or you don't have a dad if I can grab a cracker box."

I don't think he understands the words coming out of his mouth.

5 stars though.

Hooker - 2008-08-08

Probably the most important overlooked quality of straw man argument is that it is an _intentional_ misrepresentation. An honest misrepresetation is just a mistake. It's comparable to lying; you can say something that isn't true and not be lying if you believe it is true. You can misrepresent someone's argument, attempt to refute that argument, and still not be engaging in a straw man fallacy if you didn't intentionally misrepresent it, which is the case the vast majority of the time.

Merkwuerdigeliebe - 2008-08-08

Five stars for the Windows Movie Maker special effects; and zero stars for the intellectual merit of his counter-"argument;" but five stars for how it made me laugh.

StanleyPain - 2008-08-08

The guy asked for INTELLIGENT Christians, champ.

MagickPoultry - 2008-08-08

He paints a picture of a very arbitrary god.

Plus, if I can grab a cracker box, VenomFangX is wrong. Well, I just grabbed a cracker box. That means VenomFangX is wrong.

quantumcreep - 2008-08-08

Like a gay Michael Cera.

Udderdude - 2008-08-08

The human capacity for self-delusion is legendary.

Smellvin - 2008-08-08

Firstly, you should never, never, never, NEVER store bows braced (with the string on). It hurts the bow and makes it weaker. Either this guy is an idiot or is putting weapons in the background to "scare" people.

Secondly, cognitive dissonance is delicious.

glendower - 2008-08-08

As annoying as this guy is, the 10 questions video is an amazing exercise in douchebaggery. Intelligent modern believers cannot take the bible literally. Rather, they understand it was written in a certain historical context. They also have to understand that the bible, in a sense, is poetic work, in which much of the imagery is symbolic, getting to a deeper spiritual meaning. The guy is operating at 5-year-old level when he asks why god wont heal the injured. Any serious believer has transcended the base hope that god is supposed to provide some *material* relief in one's life.

Rovin - 2008-08-08

You mean "Any serious believer with any critical thinking skills and intelligence."

StanleyPain - 2008-08-08

But that is part of the basis of the religion, which is the point he was basically making. You just basically summed up the idea behind the 10 questions thing which is that for Christians to get on with their daily lives, they have adopted a "well, it's symbolic" approach to the bible, which is completely illogical. The bible and the roots of Christianity lie in believing in God and believing that God has omnipotent powers over the world and the universe and everything in it. This is enforced by the Gospels, which many Christians DO take literally for the most part. But you can't have it both ways. You cannot believe in the power of God and Jesus, and the supernatural miracles they are advertised to be capable of, and then simply say "Oh, well we all know those things are physically impossible and don't stand up to logical scrutiny, but I'm a Christian anyway and that stuff was just metaphor to make you believe." It's a self-rationalization that's completely ridiculous. Whether you think that point was made in a douchey manner, it still stands.

Cleaner82 - 2008-08-08

Anyone has to take certain things on faith. Prove to me, for example, that anything exists outside your own mind. If you can, you get a cookie. But you can't. And from that standpoint, to flagrantly believe in a world outside your brain in spite of an utter lack of evidence is 'rediculous'.

phalsebob - 2008-08-12

This guy's whole shtick is being able to piece together arguments based on cherry picked biblical passages, assuming those to be the literal word of god, and using them to defeat an argument in a vacuum. He doesn't ever touch on biblical contradiction, counterarguments found in theological studies, problems arising from interpretation, etc...
Interestingly, he blithely states in argument 9 that the body and blood of Christ is based on parable...

Oh wtf... this guy will never respond here or anywhere else in a debate fashion, so I shoulda just gone with 'cognitive dissonance lol.'

futurebot - 2008-08-08

"Then the Lord said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.'"

(Several chapters of God giving Satan permission to torture Job)

Dinky Patterson - 2008-08-08

His Mom is still trying to figure out why he tossed a box of Ritz crackers into the shopping cart.

Thatcher Pennywhistle - 2008-08-11

+5 stars for the bow hanging from the closet door.
