I don't suppose it could be the fact that male nerds, as a rule, are so socially maladjusted that they have no idea how to talk to a woman that isn't their mother?

Those girls could have gotten laid if they'd showed initiative. Somebody in that ballroom would have taken them back to their hotel room, and they would have sat up all night talking about fanfic and MAYBE spooning awkwardly with all their clothes on.
