Unless I'm mistaken, if you get a kappa to dump the water out of the bowl in its head, it dies. Also five stars, and not JUST because this isn't anime. (Two stars are cause I wanna bone the yellow lady kappa.)
It depends on who you ask. According to some versions of the story they just become powerless temporarily, whatever "powerless" means in this context. You can get them to dump out the water by bowing to them, as kappa are unfailingly polite and will return the bow. I am not making that up.

Kappa are known for their love of cucumbers. One way of gaining favor with them is throw a cucumber into the lake they're residing in. There's also a cucumber sushi roll that's named after them.
That was a much catchier song than I expected it to be.
Theater people are annoying in every culture. Still, I liked it.
