Probably the fact that he's still obscure for being such a major character. Everyone knows about Batman and Superman so they have become less nerd-cool. Nerd-cool is inversely proportional to how cool something is to the general populous. Which is probably why so many nerds are hoping for the Watchmen movie to fail so it can remain the pinnacle of nerd-cool.
