Xenocide - 2009-04-08

I AM A PARENT FORCED TO WATCH HELPLESSLY AS THE SCHOOLS EDUCATE MY CHILDREN.

I AM A DOCTOR WHO HAS BEEN FIRED JUST BECAUSE I REFUSED TO DO MY JOB.

I AM THE TERROR THAT FLAPS IN THE NIGHT.

I AM STANDING IN FRONT OF A GREEN SCREEN AND LATER ON SOME SCARY STORM IMAGERY WILL BE PUT BEHIND ME. OR MAYBE FOOTAGE OF HITLER WHERE HIS FACE SLOWLY MORPHS INTO OBAMA'S, WE HAVEN'T DECIDED YET.

I AM A FAR-RIGHT THINK TANK THAT JUST FIGURED OUT THAT TRYING TO BAN SAME-SEX MARRIAGE IS A LOSING BATTLE, SO I'M TRYING TO EQUATE IT WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH.

I AM TRYING TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT.

(this message brought to you by a partnership between Overthink Marriage, the National Organization for Marriage, and No Obscene Matrimony.)

PAID FOR BY OM NOM NOM.

EvilHomer - 2009-04-08

But... but... what about the sad piano music? I feel so scared and helpless.

Also, "Rainbow Coalition". Teehee.

Randroid - 2009-04-08

It's a rainbow coalition because it involves a hired actor with Indian accent and a hired actor who is black.

Therefore, people from all walks of life - not just those commonly associated with the religious right - hate gay marriage.

The GOP doesn't contain the vilest and wilfully most ignorant racists on Earth because you have Bobby Jindal.

Squidmojo - 2009-04-08

These stars are for Xeno's comment.

dementomstie - 2009-04-08

Darkwing wouldn't oppose Gay Marriage.

Xenocide - 2009-04-08

No doubt that's his evil twin Negaduck trying to ruin his good name.

SRP - 2009-04-09

bandwagon stars for comment

Stog - 2009-04-08

Boo hoo. Boo hoo hoo.

You little wussies and your goddamn green screen don't sway me.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-04-08

Wait, back up a second. How does gay marriage (which isn't legal in California) affect how the California doctor does her job?

And that "Rainbow Coalition" is going to result in some confusion.

Rovin - 2009-04-08

I like the insinuation that gay marriage isn't enough, but that they want to bring something into YOUR life...

You know, as if the little girl's speech is insinuating that the plan is to force her to be gay herself or something.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-04-08

I'm guessing the doctor is referring to the Benitez decision, which held that a doctor couldn't refuse to treat a woman because she was a lesbian. Of course, the doctor has a duty to treat a patient in need regardless of who or what they are and discriminating violates the medical oath, so the decision is in no way related to gay marriage.

Rovin - 2009-04-08

Right, and now that I think about it, they might have been insinuating teaching acceptance of gay marriage in schools in regards to what the little girl said.

fatatty - 2009-04-09

I think the doctor is actually referring to artificially inseminating lesbians. Which to me is a legitimate argument.

If Quakers can get out of war for their religious beliefs I think Christians should be able to not make women pregnant in defiance of their god's will. Getting pregnant is not life or death and there are plenty of doctors who will vag baste you, gay or not.

And really, if you're gay I don't think you would want a doctor who thinks you're an abomination anyways.

That said, gay marriage being legal doesn't mean the government is going to force her to put semen in lesbians. So the statement doesn't belong in this debate.

But, personally I don't want the government having the power to force anyone to put semen into anything.

IrishWhiskey - 2009-04-09

For the love of...

Okay, lets start with the fact that there's nothing in Bible condemning insemination of lesbians. You can read a condemnation of artificial insemination in general, or homosexuality in general, but if a person believes that or feels they need to pick and choose who's worthy of insemination (and there isn't a Biblical justification for deeming Muslims, Jews and Athiests worthy but not lesbians) then why the hell would they become a fertility doctor in the first place?!? The better analogy is a Quaker signing up for the armed forces, then demanding the right to pick and choose who they fire at based on personal beliefs.

There are no court decisions requiring doctors to inseminate. There are already long-standing laws prohibiting doctors from refusing to treat a patient in need. But those laws are based on the Hippocratic oath, not gay rights.

mashedtater - 2009-05-15

these are almost the same people who refuse to give me birth control because they see it as a form of abortion.

FUCK YOU, MISS DOCTOR LADY. I NEED IT FOR HEAVY FLOW, NOT BECAUSE I'M A HO.

even if i was, it is none of your business.

Rovin - 2009-04-08

"... a rainbow coalition..."

James Woods - 2009-04-08

"A rainbow coalition of people from every creed and color is coming together in love" Sounds pretty gay to me.

Cleaner82 - 2009-04-08

"A rainbow coalition of people of every creed and color coming together in love to thwart the right of some people to marry their loved ones."

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-04-08

I totally want to see these people have gay marriage forced onto them. I want to see a SWAT team kick down their door, smash them in the face with a rifle butt, and drag their semi-conscious bodies outside to the waiting mobile church. There, they will be forced to marry a whisper thin young man with charmingly effeminate features, or a tall athletic woman with a braided ponytail. Then, their new spouse will drag them to the mobile honeymoon suite half a block away.

Their children will be sent to gay camps, which are like normal summer camps, except the only activities are dancing to Euro-pop and drinking virgin daiquiris.

Severian - 2009-04-08

yes this.

The McK - 2009-04-08

Apparently I've been going to gay camp for years now.

citrusmirakel - 2009-04-15

These stars belong to you, good sir.

zatojones - 2009-04-08

I'm still not clear on how changing the legal status for two gay people is going to change me within the context of my existing heterosexually based legal status.

bopeton - 2009-04-08

THEY ARE BRINGING GAY MARRIAGE INTO MY LIFE.

Frankly, I think gay marriage should be outlawed. I also think heterosexual marriage should be outlawed.

Specifically, I think every bit of legislation at any level regarding marriage should be abolished. What a waste of my tax money. Why should I pay judges and county clerks and legislators and insurance attorneys and so on to maintain the marriages of married people?

Fuck religious rites forced onto my tax return.

StanleyPain - 2009-04-08

THE GOVERNMENT WON'T HELP ME WITH MY TRIBAL SUPERSTITION! THIS IS LIKE 1984 AND THE MATRIX ALL WRAPPED INTO ONE!

StanleyPain - 2009-04-08

I like Wonkette's characterization of this ad as "The Queer Hurricane will destroy everyone."

Yellow Lantern - 2009-04-08

I was in a pretty sour mood from work today, so when I got home and watched this, every time someone spoke, I just said "fuck you!" to my monitor.

It was rather cathartic.

Gianni - 2009-04-08

"MY FREEDOM WILL BE TAKEN AWAY." of all the hilariously stupid lines in this commercial i'm surprised the actress who said this wasn't struck by irony lightning as she said it.

charmlessman - 2009-04-08

My freedom is being taken away.
My freedom to be able to say, "There is no legal gay marriage in my state" and not to be called a liar.

IF THAT AIN'T EVIL, I DUNNO WHAT IS!!

svraz - 2009-04-08

My new POE TV motto:

WTF is wrong with these people!

raeshaldis - 2009-04-08

Feel sorry for the prejudice assholes, they demand it!

CharlesSmith - 2009-04-08

Have these people had the irony centers of their brains lobotomized? Of all the language they could have used, why go with "they're trying pry into our private lives! They're trying to take away our freedom!"

They might as well have just said "Gays are using their ancient superstition as an excuse to discriminate against us!"

CharlesSmith - 2009-04-08

I've got another one: "Gays are using storms as a metaphor for our rights!"

yeahjim - 2009-04-13

Or like, cold fronts as allegory for, no wait, static electricity as concomitant to the subtle sexualization of, uh..... dammit man, how do you do it?

Old People - 2014-12-04

Here comes the story of the Queericane...
