Y'know, I understand where the man is coming from, but being all YEAH FOX NEWS YOUR PARENT CORPORATION IS TOTALLY A SLEAZY DYSTOPIAN MEGACORP is a bit hypocritical, isn't it? I mean holy shit dude, your paychecks come from GE.

Bort - 2009-04-16

Olbermann's complaint isn't that Fox is a big corporation, but that it's trying to sell these tea parties as something to benefit the common man while actually hurting them.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-16

Fox started covering them they didn't start them. Even PEW research says that Fox news is more balanced than the others.
http://www.journalism.org/node/13436#fn1
Fox only appears far right because its right down the middle, whereas, the others are on the far left. Oh, and Hannity and O'reilly don't count as news, that's punditry.

OxygenThief - 2009-04-16

:(

Louis Armstrong - 2009-04-16

Thats coverage of the presidential election your article was talking about, and I have a feeling that the reason there re a "proportional" amount of negative stories with positive about with McCain was the GOP didn't much like McCain until he got Palin on board. That obviously worked out well for everyone(said with no sarcasm).

Reread that article. It even states that CNN was the most neutral on the scale of negative vs positive stories about blah blah balah.

And pundits may not count, but that equation changes when said pundit has there own ego inflating show.

Fuck you Cena, try harder next time. And stop watch TeH FAUXe NOOZE

Ashenblade - 2009-09-24

The argument that O'Reilly and Hannity don't count as news loses weight when you realize they're on Fox NEWS. Until they're on a network called "Fox Punditry" or some other bullshit, they count.

Preach it, brother.

mon666ster - 2009-04-16

From now and forever more, I shall always refer to Glenn Beck as "Captain Teabag".

kingarthur - 2009-04-16

Truly, no nickname was more deserved.

Ashenblade - 2009-09-24

That's exactly what I thought. Would be a four star vid but "Captain Teabag" makes this a solid 5.

Johnny Roastbeef - 2009-04-16

I'm actually with him on fuck rich tax dodgers, but to be fair, if corporations did have to pay those taxes, prices would just go up, and we'd foot the bill anyway. The shareholders and the CEOs aren't willing to take the hit in their pocketbooks just to do something unpalatable, like pay taxes to the government that provides all the services that they use on a day to day basis.

zatojones - 2009-04-16

perhaps they will take that hit when their sales drop because they've jacked their prices up and a competitor who has decided that making 24% profit on an item rather than 25% is worth it when you can double your sales by undercutting everyone else. it's called the marketplace and I've heard these tea party people are really into it

Johnny Roastbeef - 2009-04-17

If you believe that, I have some land to sell you in the Caribbean.

citrusmirakel - 2009-04-22

Woah woah woah woah woah.... hold the fuck on now.

Did you just make a "the cost for goods and services will rise" argument if CEOs don't sock their money away on the Caymans. I can't begin to describe how little sense that makes.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-16

Tax havens are caused by high taxes. The USA has the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world. It doesn't make sense for a business to stay in the US if too much of its profits will be taxed. European countries like France and Ireland have realized this and have been lowering corporate tax rates in order to bring business back, which, will also bring back jobs and tax dollars.
Its easy to cry about how "evil" rich people are with Olberwomann, but business must have freedom too. Corporations have a responsibility to serve their clients and their share holders, not the government.

Hooper_X - 2009-04-16

Corporations have a responsibility to serve their clients and their share holders, not the government.

a responsibility to serve their clients and their share holders

serve their clients

How is "paying your fucking taxes" not "serving your clients?" The money these companies would be paying would go directly to serving their clients.

the problem is that they never should have been called "taxes." they should be called "participation fees." if you want to be a full participant in our system, then you need to pay into the system that has allowed you to do all this cool stuff. this country has let you set up your corporation here, provides you with all kinds of great things to help your company grow (massive real-world and digital infrastructure and a legal system that will protect your intellectual property come to mind) and you aren't willing to put back in to support the system that made it possible? that's a dick move, and you should probably be ashamed of yourself.

Camonk - 2009-04-16

I like that you cite FRANCE.

Sure, France my have lowered taxes for corporations, but individuals pay huge taxes. France is less capitalist than China, big man.

So who should pay, the workers or the corporations themselves? Obviously you think individuals should pay more taxes, which seems at odds with other things you've said, but I mean jesus baleena mark being inconsistent wow there is a huge fucking shock.

jaunch - 2009-04-16

I second Camonk's comment about France. Sales tax there is almost 50%! I have no idea what corporate tax law is like, but the average person is drowning in taxes.

Rovin - 2009-04-16

Tax havens are caused by rich people not wanting to pay taxes.

phalsebob - 2009-04-16

You're right, Cena, France rocks the socks off of the USA.

Very crudely put, high sales taxes hurt the poor because a far greater percentage of their income is actually spent rather than tucked away.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2009-04-16

CENA MARK RAPES BABIES

simon666 - 2009-04-16

Cena, it is not about "evil rich people," but rather people using their wealth (and associated power) to subordinate the common man. You, no doubt, would agree that corporations create and push legislation that directly benefits their ability to make money at the cost of consumer freedom. For example credit card companies writing the legislation that governs credit practices.

The tyranny of the 21st century is not government in this country, it is the corporate "person," that is to say, the corporation being afforded the rights of a human individual but wielding much more power and influence than the individual.

How's this for a kicker: If a company's products have killed someone, the company can't serve a jail sentence, they pay a fine instead.

Dutch Oven Fresh Pie - 2009-04-16

Tax havens are also usually crapholes.

mashedtater - 2009-04-16

"Olberwomann," Cena Mark......really?

I mean in your comment I could see you trying to think, which was cute...

but really? "Olberwomann"?

that's so.....lame.

FABIO - 2009-04-16

I hear the People's Republic of China is pretty pro-corporate.

Cena_mark - 2009-04-16

France is not better than the US. All I was saying is that at least under Sarkozy the French are at least making steps in the right direction. France is still a socialist hellhole but at least they're realizing the need to be friendlier to business.
The tax money will serve the US better in the hands of private enterprise than it would in government. The government will just waste the money on useless projects and programs, whereas the corporation will use that money to expand creating more jobs and wealth.

Desidiosus - 2009-04-16

Cena_mark - 2009-04-16

Yeah, yeah, I know there is corporate waste, but government waste is far worse.

Helena Handbasket - 2009-04-16

Heya Cena. I value and appreciate your ideas and would like to subscribe to your magazine.

Helena: it's "newsletter".

Witty_Pop_Culture_Reference - 2009-04-16

I'm glad I lived long enough to see it being said on television: the people in power and the ruling elites are the biggest tax dodgers and drain on society. I know this isn't the first time, but it should be on every news report, every night, until people get it through their thick skulls.

Corporate welfare hurts the economy far more than social welfare ever does- all of the money going into social welfare gets retaxed and put right back into the system, spurring it on. Corporate breaks and welfare gets funneled out of the country and extracted from the system for the prime benefit of the corporation.

The only tired, broken, illogical mewl the right has ever had about it is that corporations need the incentives to create more jobs, and we needs those breaks to prop up the economy.

This is bizarro world thinking, where you give people money to go to work for them, and where people shit food and eat feces. An integrated and mutually supporting system of small business and localized economies is, has always been, will always be, the most stable and benefical economic system.

I'm not saying corporations are pure evil, I'm just saying if you actually think that the rich and powerful need more money to help *you* out, while at the same time you have no faith in any social legislation to create a system of standards for all individuals to have access to economic equality, then you are a fucking moron, and I just don't know what to do with you.

kingarthur - 2009-04-16

Don't these protesters know teabagging ruins lives!

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=51335

I do have to give msnbc credit for working that many double entendre into that short or a news segment outstanding job.

Unfortunatly I predict this will be the moment the term "teabagging" jumps the shark.
