Of course I'm totally on board already.

godot - 2009-06-01 They cover Santogold and School of Seven Bells was their favorite '08 album. obv I had to buy merch to support this.
spikestoyiu - 2009-06-01 I want a t-shirt, but the only one currently available outside of shows are white, and I hate white t-shirts.

blackmetallic - 2009-06-01
amazing.
godot - 2009-06-01 I don't know if you (or other nu-gaze fans) will see this, but this is my favorite thing since Autodrone's "Strike a Match", which you will probably like since you enjoy early-mid 90s Medicine.
happy_ending - 2009-06-01 Thanks, godot. I like Medicine, and that was a nice suggestion.

It looks like hipster crap, but it surprised me by really rocking.
spikestoyiu - 2009-06-01 What about it struck you as "hipster crap"?
happy_ending - 2009-06-01 I think that gotterdamm means the video, but it and everything about them give me a late 80s, early 90s vibe.
gotterdamm - 2009-06-01 Yeah, I was just referring to the initial reacting on seeing the video.
Ended up liking it though.
spikestoyiu - 2009-06-01 It's just people on a see-saw!
gotterdamm - 2009-06-01 Jesus Christ dude, are you like, five seconds from crying because I didn't worship this band?
I said I LIKED it. Fuck.
spikestoyiu - 2009-06-01 I stopped crying an hour ago.
But overall I'm just curious as to how people determine what is and isn't "hipster crap" these days, especially when referring to three minutes of a bunch of people on a see-saw. It just strikes me as a buzzword used mostly by nitwits.
puddin p - 2009-06-01 preponderance of hipster beards + scarves is dead giveaway

Yay Welsh bands!

Am I too fat and approaching middle age to appreciate this and not be called creepy for it?
godot - 2009-06-03 Ritzy is not as young you as you fear, and the band is savvy enough to know precisely what image they're striking with the schoolgirl outfit and anime hair/eye makeup. Heck, she and the bassist are lovers and half the lyrics (elsewhere) could very well be sexual. Also, its seems more than likely that this was a homebrew response to a rather lubricious fan-vid for their actual first single "Austere", which was banned from youtube and is now hosted on the band's homepage.
So, is there some self-exploitation going on here? Sure. But its a lot less creepy than tAtU's svengali imagery.
In most live vids, Ritzy looks like a early-20s Kim Gordon, and if you've ever seen Sonic Youth live, thats an entirely different variety of creepy.
I've only been aware of them for 3 days now, thanks to spikestoyiu, but either they or their management are really pushing all the right buttons for promoting a band in the internet age. That they actually are great (they seem incapable of writing a naff melody, at least) is just icing.
