Catastrophe - How Shariah Law Has Taken Over The West

Riskbreaker - 2009-08-04

Jebus, how long is this stuff going to last? Between this and the birthers i don't want to turn on any news channel anymore. Can't these people find a hobby or something?

phalsebob - 2009-08-04

Canada is the new Nazi Germany.

Hooray, recognition at last.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-08-04

Were there europeans/canadians this terrified of universal healthcare when it was implemented?

detc - 2009-08-04

No, because the Europeans/Canadians didn't have a well-established (and incomprehensibly wealthy) system of HMO's that have everything to lose.

Mister Yuck - 2009-08-04

Hilariously, this time around most of the insurance industry is behind health care reform. Pretty much the only folks against it are the crazy Obama-must-fail crowd.

Aoi - 2009-08-04

When Tommy Douglas fought to create Medicare (Canada's Universal Healthcare system) in the early to mid sixties (with it being finalized in 1966), the doctors and insurance companies fought it tooth and nail every single foot of the way, even going so far as to organize a province-wide doctor's strike in 1962 in Saskatchewan, his home province (where he was leader of the provincial NDP, before taking on the national leadership in the same year).

They fought a dirty, fear-mongering and lie-filled, effluently racist campaign to try and terrify Saskatchewanians (then later Canadians) that a universal health care system (hell, any government-based health care system) would kill them all, and force the government to import foreign doctors to handle all the poor people that would get health care now. DIRTY FOREIGN DOCTORS.

They were finally defeated, and the early forms of our system began to take shape. Leading to, today, a system that we may bitch about from time to time but, by a hugely overwhelming majority, would never want scrapped for a private one. The same sorts of people fighting it in the US fought it here. The only difference is that they didn't have the internet, and tv wasn't as filled with talking heads as it is now.

The spectres of fear and greed were overcome up here. I certainly hope they can be beaten down there.

Has there been any major Republican platform in the last 30 years that hasn't boiled down to scare tactics?

Document - 2009-08-04

If I say "no", what'll happen to me?

Is the answer "explosions"? Muslim and/or Canadian explosions?

KnowFuture - 2009-08-04

Things get done in this country by scaring old people.

Louis Armstrong - 2009-08-04

*double castration*

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-08-04

All this talk of socialized health care killing off old people is just making me support it more.

Riskbreaker - 2009-08-04

And babies, don't forget those too.

"League of American Voters" has a nice ring to it, makes me think of "The People's Republic of China" or "The Democratic People's Republic of Korea".

pastorofmuppets - 2009-08-05

or "heritage.org"

On some local news they had this piece where they just kept asking random long islanders about whether or not they thought their taxes would go up to cover the healthcare plan. Then at the very end they snuck in Gibbs reiterating the promise of no tax hikes for those with under 250k of income but basically shrugged it off.

Where were the cries of bankruptcy when we went to Iraq for reasons that *still* have not been officially and truthfully explained? Oh yeah, Joe Teabagger was too busy waving the flag because Killing Brown People Is What We Do Best (tm).

glendower - 2009-08-05

"You see, we need a class of people who have no right to health care, so that the rest of us can be covered."

zerobackup - 2009-08-05

If this healthcare reform doesn't go through I will have officially lost all faith in the American government/public. To not provide health care to all of it's citizens in the "richest" country in the world is just sad.
