I think you can get into a proper bare fist fight and not break both hands. However, punching the frontal bone as hard as you can will most likely end up with some sort of damage to your hand.

It's incredibly, incredibly easy to break your hand in a bareknuckle fight, especially on the forehead. Even MMA fighters who have their hands and wrists professional wrapped regularly break them. The hands are enormous pussies.

Yeah, I was always pretty much taught that if somebody swings for your face, duck so they hit your forehead, because it'll pretty much always break their hand.

It's true that punching a forehead will most likely break your hand, but since you probably won't even feel any pain until hours after it occurs I don't see how ducking forward to INTENTIONALLY get hit in the forehead is a great fighting technique.

Yeah; if you get in a fight and you don't want to break your hands, you're actually way better off slapping somebody than punching unless you've got an open shot to the gut. A good slap triggers more nerve endings than a punch, so even if you're not going to be able to put as much force behind it it's almost guaranteed to hurt more. Unless you really know what you're doing, a punch isn't going to do much on its own, anyway.

Except that a normal slap is delivered from the swing, which is the absolute worst fighting motion there is, and a straight slap is likely to bend your wrist backwards and break it.

A broken knucle hurts a little, but it's really no big deal; a broken wrist is a very serious problem.

I'd say try to avoid bare knuckle fights. If you have to, hit first, hit straight and hit hard with a closed punch aiming for somewhere beteen the mouth and nose. Don't worry about your knuckles breaking or not.
