I loved this movie in high school when I was really into the "work" of John C. Lilly. It's still a cool movie.

This movie whips back and forth between being really awesome and really stupid for its entire running time, and unfortunately ends stupid.

Could that be a stunt butt?

It was neat to find out where like 20 Skinny Puppy samples came from.

StanleyPain - 2009-10-16

I love this movie. Easily one of Ken Russell's best. Good book too.

Oh, it's also worth pointing out this still has some damn good visual effects even by today's standards, though back then the shit was more than bleeding edge. Also the sound design is fucking epic. John Corigliano's soundtrack is legendary in many circles, though long out of print. This movie needs a new remaster so bad with a full-on digital soundtrack remaster. Rumor has it Corigliano helped with the creation of the Dolby Surround master used for the original DVD, but I highly doubt that since it was a first-gen Warner Bros. disc, which are the textbook examples of cheap, shitty, farted-out products just to get the DVD medium started.

This is even more fucked up than I remembered it to be.
