Oh yeah, pimptastical Pope whatshisface is going to talk about how the Jews have too much money and take it all from the poor. That's the pot calling something else black.

zatojones - 2009-10-21

It's especially hilarious when you know that the reason medieval Jews were in the usury business was not only because they were not allowed to own land (and therefore couldn't farm) but also because Catholic church forbade Christians from loaning money with interest. Church law literally forced them into the practice for which they were immediately villified.

wtf japan - 2009-10-21

Or so the Jews would have you believe. In actuality, usury became a celebrated Jewish tradition after the purchase of Aryan Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. This is commemorated in the ritual of Pidyon haben, in which the father of a firstborn male Jewling must purchase him back from the Rabbi for 5 shekels upon pain of having the child be fed to the Rabbi's Golem.

Not for nothing guys, and by no means is hating "Jews" acceptable, but everything you said is true. Because of this and that, Jews became landlords, and because they were not allowed into the "mainstream," they remained Jewish owners of land.

If you can't imagine how toxic the relationship between Jewish landowners and the dispossessed goyim peasantry was, move to certain parts of Brooklyn and ask people what they think of their "Hasidic" landlords.

That's just an example. My point is that hatred towards Jewish landlords is unfortunately justified in some cases, not all, but those in many circumstances, yes, it was. They were gangsters. They still are. That was how it worked out. Christian nobles (the Acceptable Gangsters™) used it to their advantage. Jews suffered because of it. That doesn't mean that Jews didn't also exploit it. It doesn't mean that they were 100% victims.

Everybody in my family died in Ukraine, and in Poland, because that's just the way it was. Ukrainian Christians continue to hate Jews because the Jewish mayors of the Jewish ghettos (of which their were many dozens in Ukraine) who owned land sided against Ukraine; they allied with the Nazis! Then with STALIN! It's not my place to blame them for rationally hating Jews, not really. Why should it be? There is a semi-mythical part of Jewish victimization in American and European culture. It is exploited by ignorant and self-hating Jews of lighter skin tone all over the world. Weaker-minded American liberals (recent college grads who think Noam Chomsky is a god) pick up on that and blame everything on "Israel," because they are morons.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-10-22

To be fair, all of these guys' heads would have exploded if you told them about the pill.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-10-22

dammit, if there ever was a time to accidentally reply

pastorofmuppets - 2009-10-23

it probably applies to your jewish landlord as well, though.

Mister Yuck - 2009-10-21

Five for evil.

Five for learning that Grant was an Antisemite.

Five for taking Napolean as a moral example. Really?

Knuckles - 2009-10-21

I really admire Grant but yeah he was pretty bad with the antisemitism. It is elucidating though, because it shows that political triangulating is as old as the hills -- after this order became a big issue in the 1868 election, Grant started appointing a shitton of jews to top positions.

zatojones - 2009-10-21

that's William Sherman and he was more bad ass than you will ever know

wtf japan - 2009-10-21

My favorite general. Ever.

"You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out."

Syd Midnight - 2009-10-22

He was a good general to have on your side, being a big fan of a scorched-earth policy even on the offense, through barbarian-quality sackings.

RockBolt - 2009-10-22

Sherman's march to the sea really set the stage for a century of southern racial hatred, but every time I drive in Atlanta I have the exact same urge to burn the whole place to the ground, so I can't exactly blame him

Dinkin Flicka - 2009-10-21

No Hitler? Seriously? What, does he prove your point TOO much? It's okay to be right but he just rubbed it in?

gmol - 2009-10-21

You could almost replace every instance of "jews" with "Goldman Sachs Employees" and get a quote from today's news.

Clark Kent, no!!!!!

notascientist - 2010-04-27

Isn't the real lesson here that we shouldn't worship historical figures as a part of our present day myth of ourselves, because when you look back in time it turns out most of them were small little douchebags like everyone else?
