As much as I love mid 20th century sci-fi cinema, it's deeply unfair to tag this with H.G. Wells.

Invincible force fields were somehow a lot less terrifying than the book where instead they just gassed you before you could do anything.

I guess they needed to buff up the aliens once we got nukes and guided missiles, but why not just make a movie in the original 1898?
