When it played in the film series, naturally the theater was packed. Mickey Rooney caused an instant, ghastly silence and a few walk-outs.

This was also referenced in the Bruce Lee bio-pic Dragon, where he is shocked and dismayed by the audience around him howling with laughter at this scene.

It's so weird to me that people would walk out of the theater. I mean, I can understand it if the film had been made earlier that year, but we're talking about something from 1961. Anyhow, I hope the students received plenty of satisfaction from expressing their OMG OUT-RAGE.

It's the same plush, chic, shallow lifestyle appeal that Sex & the City uses. It has the added benefit of being old ("classic") with an actress well known for better, classier roles.

I too saw this movie out of curiosity from all the CLASSIC hype, and holy shit it was awful. The audience is supposed to both idolize and feel sorry for two pampered literal whores?

The original story is great, the movie seems to completely miss the point.
