Having Canadian relatives, I was never sure where the stereotype of Canadians being polite came from. Definitely not from Canada, though.

Living next to the US makes them look polite and sane in comparison. Didn't Pierre Trudeau throw a few punches too now and then?
He didn't need to, Syd. Trudeau once said during Parliament, "I know the Honourable member disagrees with me. I can hear him shaking his head." True story. When you're packing lines like that, you don't need to use your fists.
