If we could see infrared light, tv remotes would look awesome.
Try pointing a digital camera at end of a TV remote and watching the camera's viewscreen as you press buttons.
Try being reincarnated as a goldfish, or maybe a honey bee if you'd rather see ultraviolet.
So look at a blinking red LED and you're pretty much there. It's not like your tv remote is an infrared laser or anything. Or, buy a set of infrared goggles. Get some cheap ones with MW2, they would be good enough for this.
