One day I walked straight into a university classroom and spent a really long time there hearing what went on. The classes would turn over and a new topic was broached by a new teacher to a new set of students. Finally, in what I thought was the last class of the day, I stood up and said, "Fuck you-- fuck all of you. This isn't worth a damn. You're all idiots for sitting here and listening to anything. And you (to the teacher) are such a smug, presumptuous piece of shit. I KNOW MORE THAN ALL OF YOU."

Then another student spoke up and said, "I've actually had every class in here today, and I watched you sitting here-- and I know you've never been in this class before. I'M getting something out of these classes. And I'm betting no one's forcing you to be here anyway. So what are you here for? Just to gloat about how much better you are? Or are you just betting that maybe you'll hear something you like?"

"I don't know," I replied, "But you're a racist!"

"I guess..." said the student. "I'm not really sure what to say to that."

Then the teacher forced me to leave. Without anything else to say, I did - slowly, and with shame. And everything continued on around me-- I'd changed Nothing.
