This is the scene that finally sold me on Sten, and the whole game in general. And it's even better without context!

Eroticus E - 2010-03-27

Baldur's Gate 2 is probably my favorite PC game ever, and the point where I realized I didn't really like Dragon Age at all was supremely disappointing. I'd had really high hopes for this game.

EvilHomer - 2010-03-27

"Didn't really like Dragon Age?!" How dare you, sirrah! I challenge you a spot of fisticuffs. Roll for initiative!

Camonk - 2010-03-27

Hey! You there in the blousy shirt and thick belt! I liked Baldur's Gate 2, too. But Dragon Age is better. Stop stuffing your mouth full of balls and thinking that nobody can make a game better than something from like 10 years ago! Everything older is not necessarily.

Both The Witcher and Dragon Age are better than Baldur's Gate 2. Like, much better. You'd know this if you weren't such a withered husk pottering around your house with your walker and rattling bag of d20s and d4s that no modern game needs.

Aelric - 2010-03-27

Perhaps he is confusing it with the awakening expansion, in which case he would have a point but still be wrong.

Eroticus E - 2010-03-27

Maybe part of the problem is that I played BG2 when I was 18, so my memories are clouded by nostalgia. Either way, I didn't love Dragon Age. There was just something missing. And I absolutely hated the art design.

Also, in a contest of nerdiness, I'm pretty certain you'd win, Camonk. Jus sayin.

Myrmidon - 2010-03-27

I liked everything in Dragon Age except for the combat, which felt too much like a slog for my tastes. Some mods and a little tweaking though, and I ended up having a blast. I don't know if I can say it was better than BG2, but I know that's a metric ton of happy nostalgia clouding my judgement.

Eroticus E - 2010-03-27

I liked the combat quite a bit. My biggest concerns were story, art-design, and character related. All things that could easily be corrected in a sequel.

Camonk - 2010-03-27

I have to stop posting while drunk. But Drunk Camonk really doesn't think that way.

Camonk - 2010-03-27

Wait wait wait.

Your concerns with Dragon Age were with the story and art-design, but you still think BG 2 was better? Hooooooly shit.

Eroticus E - 2010-03-27

BG2 was a million hours long. It had a good villain. It never took itself too seriously. Dragon Age was all splattered blood and self-importance, culminating in a showdown with a monster I really didn't give a shit about.

As far as the art design goes, at least BG2 was colorful. I really just hate the wizard hats in DA.

EvilHomer - 2010-03-27

Hang on. Dragon Age didn't have a good villain? Dragon Age didn't have a... harrumph! What do you call Teyrn Loghain? Loghain may very well be one of the- if not THE- best villain characters in RPG history. He's a scoundrel, but he's a believable scoundrel. He's full of human motivation and drive, and I must admit that despite my best efforts, I found myself respecting and even liking him by the end, which made everything else all the more terrible. I'll leave it at that before I veer off into spoiler territory. Let's just say that a few decisions actually made me put down the game mid-conversation and ponder my next choice for an hour, a problem that never arose in the admittedly brilliant BG II. Like it or not, Dragon Age's story does a brilliant job of keeping legitimate and nuanced ethical problems on the table without inevitably bounding off into the self-absorbed edginess that seems to be the spirit of the age these days.

Unless you're referring to the Archdemon, but in that case, come on! Run of the mill god creature of the purest evil, ho hum yes, but even the Baldur's Gate trilogy had those.

EvilHomer - 2010-03-27

Camonk- was The Witcher really that good? I pirated- uhhh, bought the Witcher back in the day, but never got it to run right on my old system so I never actually played it. It looked decent, but if it's anywhere near Baldur's Gate, I might have to look into again.

Eroticus E - 2010-03-27

Jesus. I'm sorry.

baleen - 2010-03-27

Five stars for going outside.

Lurchi - 2010-03-27

none of them are ALLOWED to go outside

pineapplejuicer - 2010-03-27

i have to agree that BG2 was far superior to dragon age, but i still liked dragon age. i also recognize that part of my preference for BG2 could be nostalgic, it came out when i was just starting high school and coming into my own unique nerdliness. and for my money, fallout 2 was better than either.

but these five stars are for baleen. nobody condescends like you, sir. i'm going outside now.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-03-27

Unlike BG2, Dragon Age has a hardcore sex mod available for download.

I won't judge if you do download it.

Noober - 2010-03-27

If my son grows up to be like one of you people I will beat him to death.

Camonk - 2010-03-27

The Witcher is that good, yes.

oddeye - 2010-03-28

Holy fucking shit there is NO WAY IN HELL that DA:O is better then Baldur's Gate 2. Go now and load up BG2 and start playing it I fucking dare you.

Then come back in a week or two and tell me Jon Irenicus is not the most badass motherfucker on the planet. I will fucking eat your heart for saying otherwise.

This is what happens when people who think Deus Ex was a bad game are allowed to live.

oddeye - 2010-03-28

Nostalga nothing, I personally play through BG2 about once a year.

Aelric - 2010-03-28

You know you are all wrong. It's Planescape: Torment you should be giving perpetual blowjobs to.

In Fact, let me break it down to a list for you all:

Story: Planescape
Gameplay: Witcher
Villain: BG2
Size: BG2
Protagonist: Planescape
Jack of all, master of none: DA:O

There. Settled. Done.

Aelric - 2010-03-28

Oh yeah, forgot Fallout 2 for setting and open endedness.

pineapplejuicer - 2010-03-28

oooh he's right, i forgot all about planescape torment. that was a deliciously fucked up game in the same style of RPG. i would give that the best story nod from all games under consideration here.

oddeye - 2010-03-29

Dude, Planescape is the best fucking game ever made ever ever ever. The End.

I thought everyone knew that to be honest.

Sudan no1 - 2010-03-27

Why is that dog so shiny? Do they smear grease on it?

oddeye - 2010-03-28

He has a really short coat so to compensate the breed have oily skin.

Plus it makes him harder to wrestle.

oddeye - 2010-03-28

This game was ok. The best part is

*SPOILER*When you find out Shale is actually a woman*SPOILER*

Aelric - 2010-03-28

But he was a dwarf woman, so it doesn't really count.
