And to men like him, I said, when perfected by years and education, and to these only you will intrust the State.

This is what city planners actually believe.

Kudos for the editing, which conveys just enough of that "killer from Se7en's notebooks" vibe.
I think the most terrifying detail is at 6:39, where it is revealed that the mathematically perfect city means nobody survives past the age of 60.

Scynne - 2010-04-16 That was a revelation to you?

Sundry - 2010-04-16 Not pictured: The dome over the city, the fish-processing robot.

Man Who Fights Like Woman - 2010-04-16 For me the moment of horror was at around 4:00 when he zoomed in to show the buildings and they were all the same. Every building was the exact same skyscraper, repeated as far as the eye could see. It was like some sort of horrific suburb had become the main city and nobody noticed.

True story. In grade seven information technology, a required course, part of the cirriculum was to actually play SimCity. I shit you not.
Unfortunately, it was late in the year and during all the NetTrek or whatever we were supposed to be playing before that, me and my friends were playing SimCity during class instead, so when mandatory SimCity came up, we were bored of it and played the other games.

I always tried to make cities I wanted to live in, not factory farms.
So, how's life, cubicle workers of PoE? Still pecking at that keyboard for somebody else?

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-04-16
All of that work, and you don't wreck it all with a series of disasters?

The only way this could be more perfect is if he used the city scene music from Koyaanisqatsi.
|
unknown rebel - 2010-04-16 No, that's the soundtrack to ant farm, and the noise of an ant farm is the soundtrack to this.
|
athodyd - 2010-04-16
This is a pretty good illustration of the fact that ever since SimCity 3000, Sim City has been less about designing fun little towns that you might want to live in and more about figuring out the exact size of city block necessary to ensure continued profit.
