Wow, they found the complete copy in an Argentinean museum. Neat. I saw this some years ago in Berkeley in a wide-release theater. I don't remember why it was in the theaters at the time...but I'd recommend seeing it if it comes to your town to everyone.
|
cognitivedissonance - 2010-04-27 OF COURSE it was an "Argentinian museum". Next to the Colonia Dignidad.
|
Hooper_X - 2010-04-27 I suppose this is a bit like how the BBC thinks copies of some of the "lost" Doctor Who episodes may be in Zimbabwe. The government of Zimbabwe bought copies for broadcast back in the day, but if they still have 'em, Mugabe isn't talking.

The original Kino restoration from a few years back was already pretty impressive....this is like icing on the cake. I assume it's releasing in Blu Ray?

My first viewing of Metropolis was some servicable-at-best copy on VHS by some outfit like Goodtimes Video. I've seen it in every available version since then (even the one with Queen music dubbed over it and such), so there's no question as to whether or not I'll watch this version.

I'm not comfortable with it without the Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

I have wanted this for YEARS and wasn't aware of it until today.

Haha! Screw you, Nazis!
I am overcome with bliss at such a treasure surviving intact.

Do want.

Still amazing.

I know it's just the same statement over and over but I must say again how truly and utterly amazing it is that this film in any format was able to do what it did. Lang was, I dunno, a time traveler from a alternative future that went back in time to evolve movies. It's...it's just goddamn beautiful.

I am touched in a way that I can't describe. It is a rare event and I look forward to it. Looking forward to this makes me feel like I did when I was a teen and just discovering truly great films.

I'd like to put Michael Bay in the Ludivico chair and make him watch this until he poops his pants and promises never to do it again.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2010-04-27
I hope they never release a modern version of this film. They're just going to ruin it if they try.

Hooper_X - 2010-04-27
Incredible.

Hooker - 2010-04-27
So is this _complete_? 25 minutes of restored footage doesn't necessarially mean complete, considering that there are a thousand different cuts of the film.

Then I guess they weren't lost forever, were they wisenheimer?

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2010-04-27
I need to see this. It's been in the back of my mind for the better part of a decade now. Guess I'll wait and watch this version.

Science fiction movies have been downhill since this one.

I really wish they'd digitally slow down old hand cranked movies. They become eerily lifelike when slowed to normal speed without flickering. Not by default, just as am option, I've seen that done and really liked it.
