oh my god i don't know if i can even watch this.

The Mothership - 2010-05-17

What the fuck. What the fucking fuck.

Smellvin - 2010-05-18

The title actually makes it seem less awful than it was: the police first SET THE KID ON FIRE (flashbang) and THEN shot her.

detc - 2010-05-18

Never, EVER play hot potato with a phosphorus grenade. Ah, those wacky police, how do they ever get out of these situations?

Xero - 2010-05-18

Stars for the dad looking like he gives two shits.

dora's cough - 2010-05-18

What?

Torture the Artist - 2010-05-18

I... what?!

Camonk - 2010-05-18

Jesus, you PC faggots, stop pretending. You all know that 99.9repeating% of black guys are stay-in-jail fathers who don't even know their kids' names.

Xero is rightly giving this one credit for being an exception.

Dinkin Flicka - 2010-05-18

He's not trying not to cry? They say that sociopaths can't recognized expressions of emotion, I guess it goes for attempts at inhibition too. Right, Xero?

Xero - 2010-05-19

I'm sorry I should have worded that better. I'm giving the dad my stars cause he doesn't look that upset. He looks a little disappointed like he's thinking, "Damn, there goes the tax write-off." At least, that's what I see from the look on his face.

MaulLove - 2010-05-21

If you watch other footage the dad has been crying off and on for hours. This is one of the moments in between where he just looks dead inside.

Baldr - 2010-05-24

It must be pretty awesome to be able to gauge another person's grief over the death of their child by watching a two second news clip.

Wombles - 2010-09-02

I think he's sad because his child died. Maybe other stuff too, but that's really the big thing here probably.

Squidmojo - 2010-05-18

More details here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100518/ap_on_en_tv/us_police_search_g irl_killed

Apparently the police were filming a reality show when this happened and the film crew says it was not an accidental shooting.

baleen - 2010-05-18

They didn't say it wasn't accidental, they said there was no altercation inside. I highly doubt a cop would point blank shoot a little kid in the head on purpose for fun. I'm just going to go with incompetence mixed with adrenaline mixed with bad luck.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-05-18

Mixed with a culture of police not being responsible for accidental killings.

Macho Nacho - 2010-05-18

This is awful.

bopeton - 2010-05-18

God. It's kind of a shame that in order to get any sort of recompense for this at all, they'll have to go through a multi-year lawsuit and drag this awful shit out even longer.

This is really fucking awful.

splatterbabble - 2010-05-18

Cops are above the law.

5 for that evil.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-05-18

All police are gun-crazy weirdos.

Scynne - 2010-05-18

HEADSHOT!

Am I a bad person?

Vestigial Johnson - 2010-05-18

if i say yes will you kill yourself

James Woods - 2010-06-18

Yes.

knowless - 2010-05-18

at least they didnt pretend she was being used as a human shield... but thats only because there were too many people who could tell others that the officer shot the 7 year old in the head.. not, not on purpose, or something.

MaulLove - 2010-05-18

According to the lawyer for the family the footage shows the cop throwing the flash grenade into the lower apartment (the one that didn't harbor the suspect) and then blindly firing into the building.

MaulLove - 2010-05-18

Watching it again and hearing the father made me cry.

The woman who fought with officers. The grandma who came downstairs and was run into by officers who had just shot her granddaughter in the fucking head.

Robin Kestrel - 2010-05-18

And then they arrested her and held her for 12 hours, after she just watched her granddaughter die.

Also, before the raid, a relative told police there were children inside the house, and pointed to toys in the front yard. “‘There’s kids in the house,’ I said five times, ‘there are kids in the house.’”

MaulLove - 2010-05-19

It sounds like they were trying to blame the grandmother until they realized there was no evidence to back it up:

Mertilla Jones was arrested and held for nearly 12 hours Sunday. Before she was released, she said, she submitted to a drug test and a chemical test on her hands to determine the possible presence of gunpowder that would have indicated she was close to a discharged firearm.

Later on Sunday, police said the two may have simply collided inside the house. On Tuesday, Mertilla Jones said she never touched an officer, but instead hit the floor when a flash grenade went off. She then noticed her granddaughter's horrific wound.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-05-18

So much for Detroit's new tourism campaign! I guess people will have to boycott that part of the country now and oh uh

sosage - 2010-05-18

I didn't know Michigan passed a law that allowed cops to open fire on little kids sleeping in bed.

Dicknuts - 2010-05-18

Only poor black ones. And only for the past 150 years.

phalsebob - 2010-05-18

I wonder if we can pay gangs or someone to protect us from the police?

svraz - 2010-05-18

American police treat their own people the way Israelis treat Palestinians.

themilkshark - 2010-05-18

White people kill their own children, while black kids are murdered by the police. Viva La Raza?

dueserpenti - 2010-05-18

What can you even say at this point.

Hay Belly - 2010-05-18

Don't let murder suspects hide out in your house and then lie to the police about them?

Torture the Artist - 2010-05-18

Or else the police will murder your daughter in her bed?

nemeses9 - 2010-05-18

Or you could read the fucking article and discover that it was a duplex, and the police stormed into the wrong unit, and the family of this girl who got shot had nothing to do with the person the police were looking for.

MaulLove - 2010-05-18

I'm fucking livid that this sort of stupid comment is on PoETV. I saw this shit on the news articles from the illiterate racists who didn't read the article.

Even if it had been her fucking father who killed someone (which of course it fucking wasn't and it wasn't even someone in the same apartment) how the fuck does that justify shooting blindly and lobbing a flash grenade and murdering a 7 year old girl? What if the suspect hadn't fucking killed someone? What if they were *GASP* going after a random black man?

You are a worthless sack of shit.

Hay Belly - 2010-05-18

I've read 10 different articles and they all say different things. If you think I'm uncaring about a child being shot or defending the police you're wrong.

"Godbee said officers used a "flash bang" device, entered the home and encountered a 46-year-old female inside the front room."

"Exactly what happened next is a matter still under investigation, but it appears the officer and the woman had some level of physical contact," Godbee said in a statement Sunday. "At about this time, the officer's weapon discharged one round which, tragically, struck 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley Jones in the neck/head area."

"34-year-old suspect was found and arrested at the home where the girl was shot. In addition, a vehicle and a moped matching the descriptions of those involved in the shooting of 17-year-old Jarean Blake were also found, he said."

Do you know anything about the suspect? He shot a 17 year old in plain sight in front of his girlfriend on a playground. The police knew they would probably be shot at going after this murderer.

Are the police saying "home" when it's really a duplex? Did the parents hide the murderer? Did "the woman" attack the officer? There's more to it and to say the police were 100% wrong as soon as an innocent person is killed is a bit reactionary and naive.

Torture the Artist - 2010-05-18

See, one of the most important functions of the police is to make sure innocent people don't get killed. When they shoot a sleeping child after setting her on fire, yes, they are 100% wrong. I'm willing to accept you thinking I'm naive for believing this.

MaulLove - 2010-05-19

Don’t backtrack from your pithy one liner. You did defend the police by placing the blame solely on the victim’s family “Don't let murder suspects hide out in your house and then lie to the police about them?” The best part about your statement is that neither the police nor the newspapers even suggested the idiocy you’re babbling; they freely admit that it was a duplex and the victim’s family wasn’t involved with the suspect (who they haven’t charged and who doesn’t look to be the perpetrator). Where the fuck does it even suggest that the family lied to police in any way? The worst the police said about them is that the grandma scuffled with them, which they later retracted and changed to bumped into. That the police said home means absolutely nothing; have you ever seen a duplex?

http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100518/NEWS0 1/5180351/1318/Grenades-use-in-lethal-raid-questioned-defended&tem plate=fullarticle
“Moments before Detroit officers lobbed a flash-bang grenade into the front window of an east-side duplex, they huddled at a briefing location to map out the impending raid.
In their hands was a warrant: a typewritten court order signed by Magistrate Sidney Barthwell Jr. that gave them legal authority to search both units, as well as any other structures on the lot on the 4000 block of Lillibridge.”
You say, “Do you know anything about the suspect? He shot a 17 year old in plain sight in front of his girlfriend on a playground.” The way you write this betrays your mindset. The suspect is suspected of doing this, he didn’t do it. At this point he hasn’t even been charged, and they are looking for another person. I know that you were probably trying to make the point that the police were being cautious, but your choice of phrasing and vocabulary betray your mindset in approaching the suspect and the family.

“[T]o say the police were 100% wrong as soon as an innocent person is killed is a bit reactionary and naive.”

I didn’t say the police were 100% wrong as soon as an innocent person was killed. As soon as I saw this video I read a number of available articles and made a comment that contributed to the discussions (see my first post on this video). This is in stark contrast to you, a reactionary and dimwitted cunt who wrote exactly what morons and racists all over the Internet are writing on newspaper websites and YouTube.

phalsebob - 2010-05-23

Hay Belly, it's too bad you weren't shot to death. Then the cops would only be 99% wrong.

mantang0 - 2010-05-18

in a sane world these thugs would spend their last few days on this earth running scared from the angry mob that would soon rip them limb from limb.

Dicknuts - 2010-05-18

Oh my god! How could this happen? I'm outraged! Oh shit, Lost is on brb.

libby1217 - 2010-05-19

a thousand stars can't bring her back-what a shame-a crime that needs investigation!!!
