At the end of the video, the text says that they later amputated the rest of the leg at the middle third of the thigh.

Basically, you take off the dead and bulky bits prior to OR so that you don't have as much of a mess to work with intraoperatively. That part of the procedure doesn't have to be sterile, since you're dealing with devitalized tissue.

Once you get to the OR, you just keep cutting further up until you see bleeding. Once you're happy that you're left with only living tissue, you're ready to create a stump.
