wtf japan - 2010-08-10

As far as I'm concerned, this is what actually happened.

When I first saw Tetris in the mid-80s and there was all the stuff about how this game came from Russia, I imagined that it was some sort of traditional puzzle game played with physical puzzle pieces, and further I imagined this being played by stereotypical downtrodden old fat women wearing babushkas. Because, OBVIOUSLY, they don't have computers in Russia.

fatatty - 2010-08-10

I thought the exact same thing. I blame the last bits of Cold War propaganda in the 80s.

StanleyPain - 2010-08-10

Actually, tetris is sort of based on an old, traditional game: the pentomino puzzle, only Tetris "forces" you to "solve" the pentominos by way of the whole gravity mechanic. Interestingly, the actual story behind Tetris itself is quite fascinating and ends with one of the original co-creators killing his wife and child with a knife and then stabbing himself in the neck.

Cleverness should be rewarded.

I liked this.

memedumpster - 2010-08-10

This got really intense as it went on. Hell yes.

Explodotron - 2010-08-10

Very cool. Very, very cool.

Am I wrong or were those German Tiger tanks with Soviet stars painted on them? Not big enough of a nit to subtract stars...

Operation Cornflakes - 2010-08-10

Good eye.

garcet71283 - 2010-08-11

You beat me to it. Glad to see there is another WW2 nerd out there.

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-08-11

I need six stars, damn your eyes!

Old_Zircon - 2010-08-11

This is how you do it.

garcet71283 - 2010-08-11

This is the best thing I have seen all day.

Xenocide - 2010-08-11

I'll admit, I can be pretty easy. A Tetris song by itself would have gotten a five. A Russian history song would have also merited a five. As would anything involving such cool photography.

But combining all three just makes this one of the best damn things I ever did see.

deadpan - 2010-08-11

I always preferred Music C myself.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-08-14

catpenis27 - 2010-11-19

A friend of mine had an interesting navy history. I asked him if we could beat Russia, "How the fuck can you destroy a people who believe they have nothing to lose?"

oddeye - 2011-07-09

Only by killing every last one of them.

Nikon - 2010-11-26

Fantastic. Five stars.

jimmicampkin - 2012-06-29

I am lost for words, so I will just leave my keyboard and dance in my living room like a tit to release the excess energy generated by this awesomeness.
