I suspect the public perception won't play out quite as environmental lobbies anticipate, in no small part due to the the superlatives cast about. A lot of people will see green marsh grass and two-months dead birds and find the worst case scenario no longer so unthinkable.

Bright side in local news is there seems to still be a push for heavy dredging operations to strengthen barrier islands and close off old barge channels that were causing marsh recession. Ideally levee cuts to bring in fresh sediment will also be considered. Federal pork that just might happen while all the imagery is fresh and infrastructure stimulus bills are considered.
