I find the idea that "Islam" is an ideology humorous. It's like saying Unitarians, Catholics, Satanists and Adventists share an ideology. Its amazing that they even allow Protestant churches in London, what with those IRA bombings and all. This issue is a good litmus test for atheists. People who can't see why freethought and freedom of religion necessarily descend from the same ideal are automatically assholes of the worst kind. If he was Christian, I'd assume he was unable to see things objectively. But his bashing of Islam to the exclusion of other faiths points to hypocrisy and xenophobia.

In the US, because the conservatives decided that Islam's mere existence would make a good election-cycle wedge issue, decades-old mosques on both coasts have become the victims of vandalism and arson. Raising the terror alert level like they did in 2004 was cute in a Harold Hill sort of way. But this two-minutes-hate stuff is utterly fucked and people are getting hurt. I really hope it dies down after November.
