Also, I think these really keep the spirit of the demoscene in that there are parts where the only sensible response is to say "holy shit, how much time did it take to make that? Why did you even put that in?"

I'm guessing that most of the gameplay footage was done by applying simple image processing to actual gameplay footage, judging by how the background pixel aliasing happens, and also with how Mega Man disappears entirely when he's blinking after taking damage.

It also wouldn't surprise me if most of the 3D lego sequences were CG, judging by how smoothly the camera moves in some (but not all) of them and the particular way that the soft shadows look in the smooth-camera ones.

Yeah, I'm definitely sure the 3D work is motion graphics, and thinking about it, the 2D maybe as well.

This is very obviously real.

I'm going to say the 3D stuff is real based on the way the lighting flickers and the camera isn't as smooth as if it was done in 3D. Unless they keyed every frame of the camera to get that effect and intentionally made the lighting inconsistent.

2D looks like a filter.

2D looks like they took stills of the games, reduced the resolution in Photoshop to match their Lego matrix, and used the resulting images as templates for their real Lego setup.
