Awesome - fuck the people who make these games. This is one of the few times where I'm shouting "YES YAHTZEE SAY SOMETHING MEANER THE WORLD NEEDS TO KNOW THIS!".

Fuck Kane and Lynch.

pineapplejuicer - 2010-09-10

what really upsets me is that these assholes are busy cranking out follow ups for this horseshit franchise and completely ignoring the innovative and wonderful (and patience-testing) Hitman games they made. i effing adore those games for their mix of super-violent action stealth and strategy.

but kane and lynch just needs to go away.

jyrque - 2010-09-09

I liked the first game, if only because the characters were interesting.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-09-09

Yeah, this game is a rental at best.

And it took some work to de-legitimize what was already seen as a pretty bought-and-paid-for review website; good job on that with the first K&L game.

Riskbreaker - 2010-09-09

Whoo keeps buying all these duck-and-shoot games?

IrishWhiskey - 2010-09-09

Apparently owls.

The last two games I played, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption, used extensive cover shooting. Its not bad in itself, but it is getting overused.

Riskbreaker - 2010-09-09

Is not that is bad per se, the problem is that nobody is bothering to try and do something different with it. Vanquish might be the first attempt of giving the formula a new spin, but is a bit too soon to say.

I was thinking a good dynamic would be if you crouch behind cover that's too low you have a chance of ripping your tight pants and the skinning would change to reflect that.

If you ate some burritos and then did the same action you would feel a fart coming on but it wouldn't be a fart and then all your team mates would stay farther away from you until you changed armor.

Udderdude - 2010-09-10

Cover shooting is for girly men.

StanleyPain - 2010-09-10

The problem with cover shooting is that it's a nod to realism that, once made, is almost impossible to pull away from without games now seeming comically unbalanced. Threre was a time when throngs of enemies simply lining up for you to shoot down with your uber-grenade launcher was par for the course, but once AI got rid of the "I can take 50 bullets to the face" type of enemies in favor of the more believable "oh shit I better take cover", that's a tricky line to back across without games getting a lot of shit for "MAN THESE GUYS DON'T REACT REALISTICALLY'

That said, I think the game I think was ruined the most by moving into a cover-shooter style was GTA4. It really sucked a lot of the life out of the goofy, over-the-top violence that series was really known for.

Cover shooting as an explicitly included mechanic is a design crutch. Cover shooting that emerges naturally from layout and controls is good. This I decree.

MrBuddy - 2010-09-09

I get the feeling Yahtzee didn't like this one.

voodoo_pork - 2010-09-10

Wow. This is probably the most bilious review he's ever done. Bravo.

Robin Kestrel - 2010-09-10

TWO DOGS.

jimmicampkin - 2010-09-10

Perhaps the holiday has done him some good - this is the first one I have enjoyed since his Resident Evil 5 review.
