Insane Revelation-based theology is like the constant background radiation in American culture and politics.

CharlesSmith - 2010-10-12

Left Behind: Tribulation Force sounds like the name they'd come up with for a Saturday morning cartoon based on Left Behind intended to sell Christian action figures to children.

On that note, I own a Jesus action figure and surmise that about 90% of the people who do are atheists.

Command and Conquer: Tribulation Force

Trouble With Tribulation Force

Twitch - 2010-10-12

Everyone in this movie has the exact same inclination. It's like they all learned to act from Kirk Cameron, which I'm 100% sure is what happened.

dueserpenti - 2010-10-12

Wait: The sidekick from Walker, Texas Ranger says they can't stop the Tribulation, but then tells them they have to convert some Jewish guy so he won't sign a treaty with the antichrist and thereby start the Tribulation. And this is one of the bestselling series of all time.

IrishWhiskey - 2010-10-12

From what I've read, the entire series is even more schizophrenic than that.

The whole time characters give contradicting accounts of what needs to be done, and in how they act. They say the events need to happen for Jesus to win and souls to be saved, but also say they have to stop it for Jesus. They say there's nothing they can do to change events, but engage in half-hearted efforts to prevent scripture. They say their main goal is to save as many Christians as possible, but are so worried about secrecy they don't even preach to family and friends. You'd think the Christian thing to do would be to risk their lives to save others, but instead spend the books judging others and feeling self-important while accomplishing nothing.

In short, it reflects the conflicting motivations behind the rapture movement a mix of shadenfraude at the suffering of unbelievers, eager anticipation for Jesus' return, and terror/delight at the UN, atheists and Satan taking over and vindicating their nightmares

The Slacktivist blog has been doing a blow-by-blow on all the ways these books are so shitty for just about seven years now.

Quad9Damage - 2010-10-12

Good God that is an ungodly amount of criticism. I will have to find some room in my schedule for that.

The Mothership - 2010-10-12

Aren't they thwarting God's will?

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-10-11

That's what's hilarious about this movie: They know that the Antichrist must rise to fulfill Biblical prophecy, so they sort of just dick around for most of the movie, vaguely annoying him and playing light pranks to show whose side they're on. Luckily, Lucifer is one trusting motherfucker.

Nikon - 2010-10-12

THIS IS WHAT CHRISTIANS ACTUALLY BELIEVE

Quad9Damage - 2010-10-12

THIS IS WHAT CHRISTIANS ACTUALLY BELIEVE AND ARE TRYING TO INFLUENCE POLITICS TO START.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-10-12

IT IS WHAT CHRISTIANS BELIEVE AND WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO START, YET IF OBAMA IS THE ANTICHRIST AND THEY'RE TRYING TO GET ARMAGEDDON TO HAPPEN, WHY DO THEY OPPOSE HIM, AND THEREFORE JESUS?

cognitivedissonance - 2010-10-13

I HAVE MADE THIS OBSERVATION BEFORE, I'M GLAD IT'S STARTING TO STICK!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2010-10-13

IS THAT WHY I CAN'T TURN CAPS LOCK OFF?

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2010-10-12

A one world goverment sounds fine by me if it means doing away with having to go through customs.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-10-12

1:20... is Kirk Cameron standing there arguing with the leader of the one world government?

pastorofmuppets - 2010-10-12

Also I want to find "an hatchet" and smack this narrator around with it

The McK - 2010-10-12

Sorry, but without Mr. T it just isn't the apocalypse.

Quad9Damage - 2010-10-12

Yeah, I remember finding these movies in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart and seeing Mr. T on the cover.

Quad9Damage - 2010-10-12

Covers, rather. I think there are as many sequels as there are books.

The McK - 2010-10-12

ACTUALLY the Mr. T series is an entirely different version of the whole Rapture/Antichrist scenario. Hrumph Pharumph.

It also has the greatest courtroom scene ever:
"I call JESUS CHRIST to the stand!"
"I object!"

Caminante Nocturno - 2010-10-12

I'll bet people feel so special and persecuted while watching this.

FABIO - 2010-10-12

The 2nd and 3rd movie are on Netflix on demand right now (but oddly not the 1st one). I skimmed through both of them and HOLY SHIT!

- One of them opens with the president and vice president shooting clay pigeons, practically sneering how everyone is falling for WORLD PEACE, nearly outright calling it a commie plot. You know they are the good guys because they love GUNS.

- The worst part about the nightmare dystopia is the fact that religion is outlawed, yet the "heroes" are constantly chastising people for following the "wrong" religions.

- Kirk Cameron crushes an athiest strawman with LOGIC. The heathen claims that Christians just want to make everyone out to be bad. Kirk claims:

"Someone who murders is a murderer. Have you ever lied?"
"Sure"
"Then wouldn't you be a liar? Have you ever stolen?"
"Some small stuff I guess."
"Then you're a thief. So BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION you're a thief and a liar. You still sure people don't need saving?"

Kieran27 - 2010-10-12

Ah, I remember those questions. Cameron and his partner in crime Ray Comfort ambush people on the streets with them and always ask the "Think you need saving?" question.

One interview I saw had them ask a guy "Have you ever stolen anything?" and he answered "No, I have not." The rest of the clip was Comfort trying to convince this guy yes, he had in fact stolen because EVERYONE steals. But the guy refused, insisting he had lied sure, but never stolen something. It was fun to watch Ray and Kirk having a fit because this just flew in the face of their belief everyone was guilty of everything they ask, and they were not able to accept it.

FABIO - 2010-10-13

Oh geez, I forgot the last question.

"The Bible says that to look upon someone with lust is to commit adultery with yourself. Have you ever looked on a woman in lust?"
"I'm only human."
"Then by your own admission you're a liar, a thief, and an adulterer. That's 3 out of 10 commandments. Still think you're going to be saved?"

Plus the best part!

Evil atheist anti-christ storm troopers raid a good guy militia warehouse and start gunning down God's warriors. One guy is hit and when another tries to help him he yells, "Forget about me! Get these Bibles out of here!" So his friend blows through the door in a truck carrying the last bunch of Bibles in America to safety.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-05-20

Sorry, the definition of a deadly sin is to look upon a woman with lust? So... God's chosen people are the gays?

Gotta love arguments that only work when you assume the premise is true.
"Gosh, if I assume these things are sins in the eyes of your God, and adopt your extreme fundamentalist reading, and assume that repenting and obeying him is necessary to be saved from an eternity of torment, then you're right!"
