Apparently not critical spelling week.

baleen - 2010-10-24
It's a word, actually. It's a slang word derived from the real word.
|
Sputum - 2010-10-24 This language can suck my dick.

I could really go for some bologna right now.

I'm frightened to look at the YouTube comments.

uekibachi - 2010-10-25 'I agree with science and evolutionary biology. In a secular society we will not be answerable to God and be able to erase the biological accident of homosexuality. The Germans almost achieved this had it not been for the interference of those Christian bigots in power in the US and UK!'

Critical thinking takes effort, which is a sin.
|
baleen - 2010-10-24
As much as I hate to admit it many people of faith are pretty fucking brilliant. I disagree with them but they have no short amount of critical thinking ability. They just choose to believe in something unprovable.
|
Sputum - 2010-10-25 What would you consider a demonstration of a lack of critical thinking if not choosing to believe in something unprovable?

mouser - 2010-10-24
Some people will not believe it until Hawking himself delivers this into whooping form.

I was hoping this was a "Balcony Detection Kit" as I first read it. Now I'll never find a balcony.

Hey now the pyramids of Egypt weren't just "a big pile of rocks" they are a marvel of human engineering, and more disturbingly the power of slavery and tyranny.
|
American Standard - 2010-10-25 The pyramids weren't built by slaves. The workers were paid Egyptian subjects who were rotated in three-month shifts, with an upswing in manpower during the flood season.
The tombs of workers who died during construction are in the shadow of the pyramids, a place of honor. They've been excavated, along with the "Giza Worker's Village." The armies of slaves theorized by Victorian (and occasionally Biblical) scholars have no archeological support.
Sorry. I'm queer for archeology, so I can't stop myself.
|
Zoot42 - 2010-10-25 Oh no that's nice and educational thanks.

cognitivedissonance - 2010-10-25
Critical thinking is the key to something something.

Critical Thinking week is the greatest thing to happen to POETV since Andy Rooney week.
|
Old_Zircon - 2010-10-25
Again, it boggles the mind that anyone doesn't understand this by the time they're 12.
|
|
Old_Zircon - 2010-10-25 I would give 5 more just for the animation at 10:25
|
BorrowedSolution - 2010-10-25 Yeah, it took me until I was 23 just to find out about this, and I'm still pretty fucking terrible at it. But I'm trying now, which seems a lot more rewarding (even if it is constantly embarassing)
|
memedumpster - 2010-10-25
I liked this way more than the other critical thinking video, probably because I think bologna is gross.
|
memedumpster - 2010-10-25 That was a stupid comment, I also liked it because it was awesome. I need to lay off the Sagan when I post.

What's with the American Indians dancing when he starts talking about superstition? Seems like a non sequitur. Or blatant racism.
This beginning is pretty shit until the points about reproducibility and falsifiability. Most points seem to be "have common sense" rather than helping you develop common sense.
