Many of the SA subforums are quite worthwhile. Ain't no shame in saying so except in the eyes of some of the ossified POE "old guard" cleaving to a meaningless rivalry from a fucking decade ago, but who gives a shit what they think

poe had a "prime directive" honor system that discouraged posters from actually harassing the exhibits, while the something awful goon squad got most of their laughs from flooding timecube guy's geocities guestbook with pain series.

POE-red was the original "laugh at Chris-chan-type people" site, but was frequented by people smart enough to know if you directly harass the weirdos, they'll stop being funny.

SA was accused of stealing links to weirdos from POE. In addition to 'stealing links,' the goons trolled the weirdos, and made some of them shut down their geoshitties pages. That's a pretty legitimate way to piss off the ancient race of POEtards. THAT on TOP of all the usual reasons people hate goons (10bux, etc)

Something Awful and POE had a mutual linking thing going for a while to quell the rivalry.

After 4chan and ED came around, SA started to look like internet white knights in comparison, so everyone forgets their 'raiding' days.

It was a really good prime directive. It kept the fun alive. Also, a lot of people on somethingawful are/were whiny, racist, sexist, homophobic assholes who routinely fucked everything up and made the internet less fun. That being said, I still visit there once in a blue moon for photoshop fridays and flashtub.

I wouldn't say there's a rivalry, but the SA forums are still filled with fucktards who basically get accounts here and on POEN, wait for someone to post a funny link or video, then break their fingers instantly submitting it as a "link of the day" for SA or whatever, which then inevitably results in the "goons" harassing the owner of the video or link which they then promptly take down or make private. I know of at least a few videos here on POETV that disappeared a day or two (or hours) after being submitted thanks to the retards at SA thinking it's funny to spam someone's YT comments with acsii pictures of dicks or whatnot. Say what you will about 4chan, but more often than not when someone is forced off the internet because of harassment, it's the SA goons, NOT 4channers who, despite their overall stupidity, seem to understand the prime directive idea better.

The rivalry is that PoE knows the difference between "it's" and "its", and can spell "schizophrenic".

No honestly, the subforums are actually pretty good and informative if you're into certain things. GBS and the other main forums are shit, and full of fucktards, but are occasionally funny.

I guess I'm only speaking about the automotive forum though, as I'm a car nerd - it's really good, and filled with a lot of helpful dudes. There are no tags, and the VTECHOMG shit is frowned upon. It's a no-bullshit forum, in that sense.
I don't know much about the rivalry - I learned about POE back in like, 2001 or something like that because my friend had an email account here. Way before I heard of somethingawful.
