Because philosophy is hard I'm allowed to make up whatever the fuck I want!

Even if this were true (and it's not), another person's logical contradiction or lack of evidence doesn't make your own go away.

I've just heard this line of reasoning far too often lately: "We can't 'know' anything, reality has to be assumed, therefore unless you can explain everything about the universe, my beliefs must be treated as valid". And not just by religious people.

I think, and therefore I am.

I think.

Logos is just one means of persuasion and not always the most effective.

This is from a movie documentary (Collision) where he and Christopher Hitchens tour the country debating religion. Hitchens has the patience of an utter saint with this guy.

The really great thing about science is that it acknowledges its own limitations (eg. godels imcompleteness theorem) The main concern is to find out as much useful/interesting stuff as possible. What can you do about childish people who will pounce on any admission of uncertainty and use it as fodder for their own bullshit argument which they spout with *complete* certainty?
I also like to look at things on a large timeframe. If you do religious fervour worldwide has been dwindling very rapidly. Maybe the best thing is leave it alone and will go away eventually. Though I do repect the people who have the patience to laboriously argue through things with these people.

I look upon it and despair.

My bible got us out of the jungle, and yours laments the fact. That is and has always been the real issue.

Christian apologists are adorable.

I choose to base my worldview on the standard of beards. I will follow whoever has the best one.

.....not bad, Douglas Wilson. But you're no Santa.

You can argue reason from a position of irrationality. I would love the chance to argue reason with a bulldozer on every church in America. I would sit naked in the canopy and vigorously jack off at anyone who got near me.

Well, at least you'd be speaking their language.
