This actually looks pretty good, but what it has to do with Roald Dahl is beyond me.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-07-04

It is, and it doesn't.

Dahl wrote the book that the film is based on, which is also called "Fantastic Mr. Fox".

Bear in mind the film focuses far more on the titular character's relationships with the other characters than the book did.

This is Wes Anderson's true calling, it's a wildly successful film. Tim Burton needs to hang up his Robert Smith haired hat in shame.

Stopheles - 2011-07-05

Agreed a thousand times.

Bisekrankas - 2011-07-04

I watched Transformers 3 and this movie the same day, so I had the worst 2 movie hours all year followed by the 5 best(fox hours)

Very good film. Remember when a bunch of poetv idiots jumped on the "Wes Anderson sucks, this sucks" bandwagon? Yeah, good times. Not that I am a Wes Anderson fan, but it definitely seemed pre-mature.

BHWW - 2011-07-04

Well for some reason the directorial tics that so irritate me in Wes Anderson's live action movies actually charmed and amused me in this one.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-07-04

It's totally true! His twee little flourishes work here.

Also, this film annoys the hell of out John Kricfalusi, who has devoted multiple blog posts to hating it, so there's one more reason to love it.

Portaxx - 2011-07-04

Please direct me to these blog posts, cd. I love me some John K crazy. It's just so irrational and bizarre.

oh geez

Portaxx - 2011-07-05

YAAYY thank you so much! I have quite a few hilarious John K meltdowns bookmarked, but I never saw that one. I SALUTE YOU!

Chalkdust - 2011-07-05

Anyway I always figured half the point of the design was supposed to evoke taxidermy, and especially the diorama staging of, for example, museum displays. Aside: that last one with the dueling squirrels is awesome.

memedumpster - 2011-07-06

This movie looks great, but I am fiving the dueling squirrels.

thebaronsdoctor - 2011-07-08

I always find the casual John K meltdowns to be the best ones. Where he just sort of casually lets slip horrifying details about himself in casual conversation.

Like the time he was complaining about the animation on the Simpsons and immediatly segued into "Why aren't there more cartoons these days you can watch with your pants down?"
