WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2011-07-12
Back when Ebert gave movies less than 3 stars and didn't spend half his review complaining about 3d.
Jeriko-1 - 2011-07-12 Back when his review didn't consist of "Aoughff mrrff wrhfmble!"

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-07-12
Robocop 2 doesn't get the respect it deserves.

Damned prophetic what they said about Eddie Murphy's career ten years before the implosion really began.
Old_Zircon - 2011-07-12
It's true, Ninja Turtles really IS an MTV disco dancing fight.
cognitivedissonance - 2011-07-12
It kinda feels to me that the Hollywood crumble was evident here, but it really DIDN'T take effect UNTIL Siskel died, and when Ebert dies, that's the final nail for quality.

jangbones - 2011-07-12 yes, there is a giant lesson in this clip...all these movies blew, and yet the same shit still gets made, for twenty God damned years
sosage - 2011-07-12
My Mom took me to see Ghost Dad. She made it up to me with TMNT.
I dunno which version of Robocop 2 they saw. The one I watched was fun.

"What intrigued me was the notion that kids would accept heroes who were turtles, who lived in the sewers and who ate cold pizza for breakfast. That's a long way from true justice and The American Way and Superman."
Screw you, Ebert, you miserable old fuddy-duddy.
Tripitaka - 2011-07-12 If you want a decent review of art house, foreign, or independent cinema then Ebert is your guy. If you're looking for someone who is on the beating pulse of pop culture, comic books, alt comedy, or mindless popcorn flicks he will shit on everything you love.
StanleyPain - 2011-07-12 To be fair, if anyone had ever made a movie actually BASED on the original TMNT comics, it would be fucking awesome and not even Ebert would be complaining. Unfortunately, all we've had are shitty kids movies loosely based on the Archie comics travesty.
sosage - 2011-07-12 I would star stanley, but it's my video. The original comics were my first childhood experience of thinking something was cool and kinda deep (I was in middle school), then watching it get completely warped into a mainstream product that seemed shallow and shitty.
IrishWhiskey - 2011-07-12 Back in my day, heroes were a steroid freak dressed in an American flag, an uncontrollably violent green radioactive mutant, and an eccentric billionaire who ran around beating people up while dressed as a bat along with a young boy dressed in neon short shorts. You know, real role models.
poorwill - 2011-07-13 sosage/StanleyPain: But the live action movie *was* based on the comics. It had much more in common with them than it did the cartoon, tonally and story-wise.
chumbucket - 2011-07-12
Not sure what they expected, it was 1990.
joelkazoo - 2011-07-12
Blues Brothers notwithstanding, has Dan Aykroyd ever done a good movie?
poorwill - 2011-07-12 Ghostbusters. But that's all.
duck&cover - 2011-07-12 "Driving Miss Daisy"? Though that's more of a cameo.
joelkazoo - 2011-07-17 I forgot about Ghostbusters. Your other suggestions...no.
dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-07-12
A simpler time, back before internet review sites and IMAX 3D.
memedumpster - 2011-07-13
They didn't like Loose Cannons, Short Time, or Sibling Rivalry?
Fuck these people.
