This guy called the cops on himself. And the time before that. And the time before that.

jreid - 2011-07-13

Alright guys, watch this guys. Look at me guys. Look at me please, guys.

badideasinaction - 2011-07-14

I might have more respect for those who trumpet the cause of gun rights if their primary method of discourse wasn't the "I'M NOT TOUCHING YOUUUUUUU!!!" school of debate.

That and if their secondary method wasn't consisting of shouting about being law abiding, while shortly after expressing their revenge fantasy of killing all the people they disagree with when society collapses.

kwash - 2011-07-13

What a dickhead. I'm totally in support of civil liberties and personal freedoms, but MAN what a dickhead. I'd go further into how petty and pathetic it is that he carries this with him just so the cops show up to talk to him, so he can act all persecuted, but somebody else will handle that better. I just wanted to say he's a dickhead.

Also also, "just taking a walk" links?

papercut_junky - 2011-07-13

A man this inarticulate... who seems to be angry at the weather... is exactly the kind of person who shouldn't be carrying a gun.

Hank Friendly - 2011-07-13

COUNTDOWN BEFORE SELF IMPORTANT GUN/GUN RIGHTS "EXPERT" SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT...10...9...8...

Cena_mark - 2011-07-13

Well if it is legal in the area where he lives than he's in the right. Then again the police were just responding to the calls of concerned citizens so its all good.
I'm just glad to see his rights weren't violated.

sjohnson301 - 2011-07-13

Sure it's his right. I also have the right to free speech, but that doesn't mean I'm going to start yelling and barking at random strangers on the sidewalk. This man is doing this as a stunt to alarm the public and the police. It's irresponsible and very juvenile. He's a cocksucker.

EvilHomer - 2011-07-13

But it's within his rights to be a cocksucker. Just so we're clear.

Ursa_minor - 2011-07-13

If this guy had any balls or concerns about his rights, he'd be dressed like a muslim.

grimcity - 2011-07-13

Ursa's stars.

Cena_mark - 2011-07-13

On a side note I recently purchased my first gun. Now you can't run around talking about guns like I ain't got none.

CJH - 2011-07-13

I demand a video of Cena shooting over some sodee-cans with his new Red Ryder

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-07-13

WHATCHU THINK I SOLD EM ALL? CAUSE I STAY WELL OFF?
WHAT CAUSE I BEEN IN A LAB WITH A PEN IN A PAD TRYIN TO GET THIS DAMN LABEL OFF?

Also, these guys are the most Canadian sounding Americans I've ever heard.

Cena_mark - 2011-07-14

Relax, I won't shoot my eye out.

SolRo - 2011-07-14

remember to stick it down the front of your pants with the safety off, that way you wont shoot off anything important.

mon666ster - 2011-07-13

Yeah, I'm gonna have to side with the attention-seeking gun nut on this one. It's his right. It shouldn't be his right. I would take this right away from him in a heartbeat. But that's for government or courts to do, not the cops. If he is acting within his rights, then the cops shouldn't be stopping him and harassing him like this.

sjohnson301 - 2011-07-13

So you're saying that cops should not respond to several calls from concerned citizens regarding a man carrying an AK-47 at 1:30 in the afternoon down a busy road?

StanleyPain - 2011-07-13

That's not how law enforcement works. When someone calls and says "hey there's a guy with a gun walking around in the open" the cops don't then suddenly work JUST for this douchebag and say "oh it must be that guy" or "hey let's call him and see if it's him walking around." They have to show up to check it out. Every. Single. Time.
That's not harassment, it's the cops doing their jobs, period.
So, ultimately, all this says about this tard is that he is in desperate need of attention and while he might understand the "law", he has no respect whatsoever for the people who enforce those laws which is an awful combination. As heyitslozeau said: "Douchey self righteous gun people are ruining guns for everyone in this country."

mon666ster - 2011-07-13

I'm fully aware of how law enforcement works. It doesn't include demanding ID and then accusing him of being difficult when he says no. Of course no one should be walking down the street with an AK47. I can't believe that such a place exists where that is legal. However, if the police drive by, and observe that the guy is doing nothing but following the law, then leave him alone. The solution is to change this ridiculous law, not have cops responding to calls about behaviour that isn't illegal and telling him that they're gonna stop him every time even though they know damn well he isn't doing anything wrong. Perhaps these people calling 911 would be better served calling their local representatives and demanding a change to the law.

charmlessman - 2011-07-13

The cops were perfectly within their rights to do what they did, and they handled it perfectly.

They ASKED for his ID and when he refused, they didn't go any further than asking him why he's being difficult. They gave him a hard time without taking any illegal actions. Perfectly done. Their job is to protect and serve. They are protecting the public at large by letting a small dicked asshole with a sense of entitlement and an assault rifle know they are watching him.

TeenerTot - 2011-07-13

I think we're missing a big part of the story here. The cops seem to know this guy, and maybe they've seen him act a little crazy before. Maybe in their experience, it's better to stop him and make sure he's not off his rocker today.

Hooker - 2011-07-13

The fucking lunatic is not "in the right." You seem to to be equating law abiding with being a member of society. Openly carrying an assault rifle through public areas is obeying the law and being a terrible member of society just as it was at one point obeying the law and being a terrible member of society to own slaves. You are not defined by the government that has control over you. You are defined by being a member of the human race. Don't carry a fucking assault rifle through the streets just because it's one of the things that you're technically allowed to do.

Supahfly - 2011-07-13

USA tag needed.

TeenerTot - 2011-07-13

He does have an absolute right to be a douchebag.

EskimoSpy - 2011-07-13

Imagine what would happen if there were a shooting and the police's response after the fact was 'he was just carrying an AK-47 down the street, exercising his Constitutional right. There was no reason to do anything!'

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2011-07-13

man with ak also walking down street TALKING TO HIMSELF!!

The Mothership - 2011-07-13

Yes.

EvilHomer - 2011-07-13

I'd be more worried if he was carrying a real man's firearm.

CJH - 2011-07-13

like?

EvilHomer - 2011-07-13

Like a good old fashioned M16 for starters, but really, anything else will do. AK47s are the VW Beetles of assault rifles- poorly made hunks of Communist crap, whose continuing popularity can only be attributed to third world desperation and lefty-hipster oriented marketing.

And yes, I know, you can piss all over your AK47 and it'll still fire. So what? You'll still have horrid accuracy beyond close range and really, who would WANT to piss all over his rifle? Cleaning one's weapon isn't that hard.

CJH - 2011-07-13

homer did you know that poetv is looking for a new bouncer?

EvilHomer - 2011-07-13

Roachbud's gone?! Aww, man. I could never fill his bouncer shoes. :(

SolRo - 2011-07-14

So you don't know anything about guns, huh?

heyitslozeau - 2011-07-13

Douchey self righteous gun people are ruining guns for everyone in this country.

Toenails - 2011-07-13

Looking pretty red with that AK there, eh Comrade?

RockBolt - 2011-07-13

James Woods - 2011-07-13

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-07-13

Looking forward to the follow-on news clip of _another_ bitter douchebag with a gun shooting up his wife's office.

sosage - 2011-07-13

I'm just walking towards some office buildings during a time of high unemployment and huge lay offs with an AK47. What did you guys think I was going to do? I'm just picking up my wife's car!

memedumpster - 2011-07-13

This guy is a raging douche. Guns are not symbols of religion or toys to be shown and told of.

A non-cop would have shot him for doing that here. Undeservedly, probably, but it would have made us all feel better.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2011-07-13

Truly amazed he wasn't surrounded by 15 cop cars with sirens blazing and guns pulled on him. He's pretty damn lucky actually.

Burnov - 2011-07-13

We just really don't have these problems in Canada.

Firearms owners know their rights and we have due process and procedure for transporting and storing and using firearms.

Yeah, this is a stunt and its a stunt that could get him in a lot of trouble.

Honestly in Canada if you're not transporting a firearm with explicit purpose to go to a designated shooting area or to private or crown land with the intent of hunting, the police can hassle you over it. In fact it counts as an infraction against you, if it happens sufficiently, your privilege to own firearms can be revoked.

In Canada firearm owners are afforded certain rights so long as they demonstrate their ability to maintain a certain level of protocol when handling, and transporting and storing their firearms.

I don't know what else to say, things are seriously fucked in the U.S, and as fucked as it might be I cannot empathize with some appeal to authoritarian rule and ban ownership outright.

No wonder there's such a social and political rift in the U.S, everything's so fucked up there, that either you're on one side of an issue or you're forced to the other.

Evilhead - 2011-07-13

Well, it depends on this state. Seems like this guy lives in Alaska which has very loose gun laws. Try something like this in California and you'd be surrounded by 30 cop cars, forced to the ground at gun point, arrested and jailed. Some states are more like this, and there are many in between.

Burnov - 2011-07-13

I find that in most cases when I've ever gone out shooting on private land or even taxpayer owned land, it always pays to call the local RCMP detachment to find out if its okay to do so.

Sometimes in rural communities you have a variety of people all on quarter sections of land who may or may not be sympathetic to guns.

Usually if you call them and find out of there are any issues in that area, and they know what you're doing it can save everyone a pretty big headache down the road, because the police are already aware of what's going on.

So, for instance say the land owner one quarter section over hears gunfire and decides to tell some porky pies about what's going on because he/she doesn't like guns. The police are already aware of what's going on and if they decide to dispatch a car, aren't going to be worried about dealing with a belligerent person with a gun.

sjohnson301 - 2011-07-14

He's in northern Michigan.
