That's not how law enforcement works. When someone calls and says "hey there's a guy with a gun walking around in the open" the cops don't then suddenly work JUST for this douchebag and say "oh it must be that guy" or "hey let's call him and see if it's him walking around." They have to show up to check it out. Every. Single. Time.
That's not harassment, it's the cops doing their jobs, period.
So, ultimately, all this says about this tard is that he is in desperate need of attention and while he might understand the "law", he has no respect whatsoever for the people who enforce those laws which is an awful combination. I'm fully aware of how law enforcement works. It doesn't include demanding ID and then accusing him of being difficult when he says no. Of course no one should be walking down the street with an AK47. I can't believe that such a place exists where that is legal. However, if the police drive by, and observe that the guy is doing nothing but following the law, then leave him alone. The solution is to change this ridiculous law, not have cops responding to calls about behaviour that isn't illegal and telling him that they're gonna stop him every time even though they know damn well he isn't doing anything wrong. Perhaps these people calling 911 would be better served calling their local representatives and demanding a change to the law.

The cops were perfectly within their rights to do what they did, and they handled it perfectly.

They ASKED for his ID and when he refused, they didn't go any further than asking him why he's being difficult. They gave him a hard time without taking any illegal actions. Perfectly done. Their job is to protect and serve. They are protecting the public at large by letting a small dicked asshole with a sense of entitlement and an assault rifle know they are watching him.

I think we're missing a big part of the story here. The cops seem to know this guy, and maybe they've seen him act a little crazy before. Maybe in their experience, it's better to stop him and make sure he's not off his rocker today.

Openly carrying an assault rifle through public areas is obeying the law and being a terrible member of society just as it was at one point obeying the law and being a terrible member of society to own slaves. Well, it depends on this state. Seems like this guy lives in Alaska which has very loose gun laws. Try something like this in California and you'd be surrounded by 30 cop cars, forced to the ground at gun point, arrested and jailed. Some states are more like this, and there are many in between.

I find that in most cases when I've ever gone out shooting on private land or even taxpayer owned land, it always pays to call the local RCMP detachment to find out if its okay to do so.

Sometimes in rural communities you have a variety of people all on quarter sections of land who may or may not be sympathetic to guns.

Usually if you call them and find out of there are any issues in that area, and they know what you're doing it can save everyone a pretty big headache down the road, because the police are already aware of what's going on.

So, for instance say the land owner one quarter section over hears gunfire and decides to tell some porky pies about what's going on because he/she doesn't like guns. The police are already aware of what's going on and if they decide to dispatch a car, aren't going to be worried about dealing with a belligerent person with a gun.
