For some reason my submitted videos were showing up blank, even with completely correct links.

Please vote up the replacement link if you can, as that one seems to be working.

Dread Pirate Roberts - 2011-07-20

Ouch.

More Politicians need to actually do some reading instead of getting their assistants to write a brief for them.

SolRo - 2011-07-20

We need to clone him and replace the senate and congress.

fatatty - 2011-07-20

Do most Senators get laughs for banal statements like having read studies?

I can't imagine Al Franken enjoys having his old SNL fans filling up the stands and laughing during his questions.

Still, Sen. Franken always gets my stars.

Anaxagoras - 2011-07-21

They're not laughing because he was on SNL. They're laughing because his timing is funny. You know... timing? The key to comedy? That thing that Franken made a living doing? It turns out he still has those skills. And they can be used to good effect even when he's being deadly serious.

Banal Intercourse - 2011-07-21

Fuck that! It has nothing to do with comic timing and everything to do with the sad fucking state of Congress. People laughed because Al Franken does what he's supposed to do and he's probably the only one in the Senate who does.

jangbones - 2011-07-20

last shot is fucking beautiful

Explodotron - 2011-07-20

He sets them up, and then knocks them down.

Corpus Delectable - 2011-07-20

There aren't enough (intentional) comedians in either the Senate or the House.

joelkazoo - 2011-07-21

Whenever I get pissed about my state electing Michelle Bachmann, I remember we also elected Franken, and I feel a little bit better.

Explodotron - 2011-07-21

Remember, our good state of Minnesota didn't vote Bachmann in but the good people of the 6th District. This includes Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Wright, Anoka and Washington counties.

And we can all agree what quality people make up the majority of that demographic.

joelkazoo - 2011-07-21

Ah, yes! Beer-and-pickup-truck suburban hicks who vote against their own interests!

Xenocide - 2011-07-21

The sad thing is, Franken could very well be the only person on that committee who bothered to read the study.

In his books, he devotes entire sections to talking about what a research nerd he is. He practically thrives on hitting the books and trying to verify or debunk claims made by pundits and politicians. It usually proves pretty easy to do so. Meanwhile, every claim he makes in his books gets a citation, a bibliography entry, and often a chart or graph.

How sad is it that this sort of diligence is considered unusual?

Pillager - 2011-07-21

Truly, it is the Al Franken Decade.

Toenails - 2011-07-21

Is there a Franken 2012 Presidential campaign I can sign up for?

Toenails - 2011-07-21

whoops stars

Bort - 2011-07-21

I maintain that Franken wouldn't do much differently from what Obama has done; Obama is not an emperor, and he has to deal with Congress just as any other President would. In the end, it's because of Republicans in Congress, and not which particular Democrat in the Oval Office, that we can't have nice things.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-07-21

Misreading studies is one of my most hated political tools out there. It takes a well-thought out peer-reviewed article that took thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours and distils these findings down to some small and misinterpreted data they can use toward their objective. Sadly, studies on a whole like this aren't at all digestible to Joe P. Taxpayer, and he will never pick up on it.
I'm really glad Sen. Franken was so blunt with it and caught the lying liar in his lie. I really love this guy.

The Mothership - 2018-09-13

I miss Al.
