You do know that this kid actually stood besides the other guy and shot the victim too, right?
The "dumb thing" the woman in the interview is referring to is that he couldn't explain why he fired the gun.

Koda Maja - 2011-08-20 Obviously kids can't be allowed to just go around shooting people, but sending a 12 year old to adult prison certainly seems like cruel and unusual punishment.
|
cool water sandwich - 2011-08-20 Although he was originally sentenced to an adult jail, he's actually in a youth institute.
30 years, however, is insane. IM layman's O he needs psychiatric counselling and a parole hearing at 16-18.
|
Sephirock - 2011-08-20 I know he's just a kid....but their family will NEVER have their loved one back and actions have consequences. But this is a little harsh.
|
Koda Maja - 2011-08-20 When this kid gets out, he is going to be one incredibly fucked up 42 year old.
|
Hooker - 2011-08-20 Jesus Christ, Sephirock. You do realize that the criminal justice system isn't about atonement and retribution, right?
|
BorrowedSolution - 2011-08-20 Hooker: maybe you should look up the definition of penitent.
|
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2011-08-20 Wow, they did fail to mention that.
I submitted this because of the sentencing. It was a rather unique one and RT basically runs anything that makes America look worse than Russia.

Qualms about the juvenile and adult justice system aside, this story conveniently does not go into many details about the crime. It's true that a kid that age does not have a fully developed frontal lobe, which is why kids generally do stupid things without thinking of the consequences. But this was apparently a premeditated killing--planned for weeks in advance-- because these kids wanted to run away to Arizona. You could try him as a juvenile and have him out around 18 or 21, or as an adult with the possibility of incarcerating him longer. Anyway, I guess I'd like to hear more about the story before deciding whether 25 years (with 5 years suspended) is justified.

I'm going to go ahead and believe that RT stands for real talk.

Tragic event? Really? It was a fucking murder, lady.
These kids denied a person the rest of their life. If you want fair justice, they should be denied the rest of theirs.
Consider 30 years a slap on the wrist when a hundred years ago this would have probably been punishable by the electric chair or death by hanging or something.
These kids are probably half-retarded and their teachers/parents likely dismissed their serious psychological problems because they thought they were "indigo" children or something equally ridiculous.
|
|
SixDigitDebt - 2011-08-20 I thought I was discussing putting convicted murderers to death.
You must be one of the indigo children.

|
Knuckles - 2011-08-20 200 years ago they put people horse thieves to death. 300 years ago they put shoplifters to death. 1,000 years ago they put people to death because there was nothing else to do on Saturdays.
But right here in the present, the only person I see whose death would benefit society is you, SixDigitDebt. So stop wasting time and go eat a gun. Chop chop.

CornOnTheCabre - 2011-08-20 "he took a life, so its only fair that we take his, otherwise he's having all the fun" -most pro-death penalty arguments
|
SixDigitDebt - 2011-08-20 I wouldn't say I'm so much "pro-death penalty" as much as I am "anti-scumbag waste of tax money."
You're adorable, Knuckles.

Russia Today is awesome. They run any story that makes America look bad. When that isn't enough, they bring on a conspiracy theorist to make it even worse. Then they show Putin skin diving for Greek treasure. Russian propaganda is so much better than American propaganda.

gmol - 2011-08-20
I wouldn't want an attorney who would show up on camera with a desk like that.
|
memedumpster - 2011-08-20
Weaponized children are usually the fault of adults.
Seriously, who here doesn't know kids are generally stupid? Who wants revenge on something arguably non-sentient? Other children.
|
CornOnTheCabre - 2011-08-20
Look at the bright side, at least we will have rehabilitated all the criminal out of him by the time he's 42!
|
Robin Kestrel - 2011-08-20
He probably played video games and listened to objectionable music, as well.
