Consider his audience. I heard it more as:

Unless, in everything we as progressives do, we

1. Convince people that the corporate-controlled mainstream media is not giving them good information, and

2. Actually give people credible, easily-accessible sources of good information, then

we will fail to achieve any meaningful and lasting policy changes, because the plutocracy can and will easily overwhelm facts with propaganda, as they have grown so adept at doing.
