Beeeecause she's jealous of one and wants to marry the other herself?

jangbones - 2011-10-06

Do you ever wonder if most American Christians seriously believe that they have more rights under law than non-Christians?

Meerkat - 2011-10-06

There is no wondering about it.

memedumpster - 2011-10-07

They believe they alone have rights, under God.

giygusattack - 2011-10-07

I know some who would identify as christian; but also think that people, such as homosexuals, should be allowed to have certain rights. But I don't know about most christians.

I think the line is being blurred for a lot of religious people.

KnowFuture - 2011-10-07

A lot of them actually somehow manage to believe they have FEWER legal rights than non-Christians.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-07

They have a serious persecution complex.

Xenagama Warrior Princess - 2011-10-09

And then they go to "colleges" like Cedarville and Liberty and are reinforced by other members in a closed-off environment to believe that nonsense.

Then they get a degree for that crap and try to apply it to the real world only to become even more disgruntled when they find out that everybody laughs it off - then the cycle begins again.

Ocyrus - 2011-10-06

This is the face of Christo-Fascism. Behold!

This woman was the Town Clerk of a town in my county, here in New York. What this woman says is quite clear, she refuses to uphold the law of the land. She only worked as Clerk to get on the government dole here, a nice cushy position with exorbitant benefits... benefits her and her self-employed husband would otherwise have to pay an arm-and-a-leg for. As far as her claims of needing a referendum to be held to decide the state's position on marriage equality, she makes herself look entirely ignorant, especially for a clerk, of the state's constitution, which holds no provisions for referendum.

She subsequently resigned in disgrace. An oathbreaker.

Oh yeah, and she looks a lot like a lesbian.

Candlejackv616 - 2011-10-06

You mean dyke, cause that's what someone like her would say...just not on camera, and not with the hate seething out of her Tall Man-esque face.

Meerkat - 2011-10-06

She's like an ugly old Peter Crouch.

grimcity - 2011-10-06

She's like a momma lumberjack, as compared to a momma bear.

Noober - 2011-10-06

She looks like an attractive Joe Lieberman, except people don't bring up how ugly Lieberman is because he's a dude.

Hay Belly - 2011-10-07

do more do more, what else does she look like? It's not like you're on her level or anything, judging someone on something innate.

Candlejackv616 - 2011-10-11

oh fuck you Hay, we aren't on her level as im not trying to keep a certain group of people from having rights all of us should have based on my religion...im just mocking a hateful old hag who honestly doesn't deserve any respect or decency directed towards her, so fuck on off back to POENews or where ever the hell you dwell.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-10-06

I'd ask what would happen if she decided she didn't want to issue licences for interracial couples (because the white majority should have a referendum to determine what rights blacks are allowed), but it's not even a hypothetical. That literally happened just a few months ago in Louisiana.

It's really common for people to do work for clients even when they disagree with their goals or lifestyle, or have to enforce laws they disagree with. Why does she shouldn't have to be as professional as lawyers, doctors, designers, engineers, accountants, police officers, and every other type of government official?

grimcity - 2011-10-06

That shit happened here in my city (Hammond)! I think it was more like a year or two ago though... that asshole made us look like a backwoods country town. Most of us collectively facepalmed. There are some racist towns in our neighboring parish (the "chee wee' police cheif from right after Katrina), but our city is a little college city with a huge skate scene and a great mix of people. There are the few backwoods cats and frat daddys, but that JotP pretty much represents the opposite of the city.

StanleyPain - 2011-10-06

Yeah, gay marriage CAME TOTALLY OUT OF NOWHERE, NO DEBATE WHATSOEVER you fucking cunt.

Xenocide - 2011-10-07

We're simple country folk around here. We don't have time for fancy city stuff like reading the newspaper. Or reading. Or knowing how to read.

Love & Vomit - 2011-10-06

From her interview here:

www.citizenlink.com/2011/08/19/friday-five-rose-marie-belforti /

"I don’t understand why we have to change the form. I’m worried there’s another agenda involved here other than just allowing same-sex couples to be married. We know what a bride is, we know what a groom is—but if we choose to be a “spouse,” does that even limit (marriage) to a human being? Do you know what I’m saying?"

Candlejackv616 - 2011-10-06

If that video didn't make me mad enough...I'm so glad my dinner is still baking in the oven, because had I have read that I probably would have vomited.

Of course my vomiting would pale in comparison to what her husband must spews forth every time he has to scale Mt.pugfug.

Abstract Fainter - 2011-10-06

"Do you know what I’m saying?"

No.

IrishWhiskey - 2011-10-07

"Do you know what I’m saying?"

Yes, you are saying that when most people would see a loving couple of responsible adults, you imagine it leading to dudes getting fucked by horses. You may want to seek therapy.

eatenmyeyes - 2011-10-07

Animals do not have the ability to enter into contracts. The more interesting question is whether a natural person can marry a corporation.

Hay Belly - 2011-10-07

This comment that people make about "Oh next they'll be wanting to marry animals" really shows that they think anyone who isn't straight should only have the rights of/be thought of as an animal. It's like all the people who say "Obama is only HALF black!" Bigots.

Triggerbaby - 2011-10-06

I am a Japanese-American and I come from a long line of forge-men. My great-grandfather shoed horses and made nails. My grandfather owned a small ironworks and my father inherited it when grandfather died. Like most Japanese, we keep a household shrine and because of the family business, we pay special homage to Kagu-Tsuchi, the god of forge and fire. Some people--my sister included--think the practice is silly and superstitious, but it means a lot to the rest of us. A foundry is a dangerous place to work and Kagu-Tsuchi watches out for father. He watches out for me too, though I don't work with iron. Kagu-Tsuchi led me down a different path.

I’m a firefighter.

I love my job. It's very fulfilling. Just last month, I helped evacuate a warehouse after a big tank of chlorine gas ruptured. Chlorine exposure is nasty and often fatal, but I'm trained to deal with it. My crew pulled three people out of that warehouse, people who otherwise would have died, and we did it quickly and professionally. Yet despite the risks I’ve taken and the lives I’ve saved, the department fired me today because of one minor incident involving my faith.

You see, I’m a diligent firefighter, but there is one duty Kagu-Tsuchi won’t allow me to perform: namely, fighting fires.

Kagu-Tsuchi, protector of my ancestors, is the Lord of all fires, even those that start “accidentally.” If he wanted a tenement on 45th to burn, who am I to second guess the being that bestowed the gift of light on mankind? Yes, people died and yes, some kids are badly burned, but it's all Kagu-Tsuchi’s will. I performed what first aid I could after the fact, but turning a hose on those flames would have violated my deepest-held beliefs. Beliefs that are protected by law in this country.

It’s like these poor pharmacists. They are only following orders from on high when they refuse to dispense abortion pills. Their Bible says “Thou shall not kill” just like Kagu-Tsuchi tells me not to interfere with his beautiful creations. It’s just not a big deal. I mean, someone will fill those women’s prescriptions. If not, then we can only assume the Christian God wants them pregnant, right?

Naturally, I’ve filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the City of New York and fully expect to win. I don’t want money; I just want my job back. I want to save people’s lives again.

Unless they’re on fire.

I miss Locustmotive. :(

Robin Kestrel - 2011-10-07

I knew I had read that before.

Binro the Heretic - 2011-10-06

Should anyone who considers themselves a Christian/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindu/Etc first and an American second be considered a traitor?

IrishWhiskey - 2011-10-07

No, since our legal, philosophical and cultural understanding of what it means to be American is continuously changing (despite those idiots who claim they are in lock-step with the founding fathers intent, blissfully ignorant to the fact that they were a diverse and argumentative body of philosophies), it's wrong to try and label those who are trying to change it un-American, although if they're ideas are stupid, it's fine to call them delusional idiots.

Now those tea-parties with 'secede' bumper stickers like Rick Perry, they are un-American.

Anaxagoras - 2011-10-07

One man's "un-American" is another's "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out".

DrawSixBD - 2011-10-07

You work in a government job. The constitution promises the seperation of church and state. So by saying your religious beliefs influence your government job aren't you being unconstitutionnal?

I mean the state's not saying you can't practice your religious right to worship Jesus, they just want you to issue a form that says the government recognizes the marriage, not that your idea of god recognizes it.

Xenocide - 2011-10-07

"We've never had more than seven marriage licenses in one year. I love my job!"

DONATE TO THE LAZINESS FUND.

duck&cover - 2011-10-07

She went out to the country to "have some animals."

joelkazoo - 2011-10-07

"I love helping people."
...Except for the gays.

"I go out of my way to make sure everybody gets what they need."
...Except for the gays.

What an evil cunt!

Pompoulus - 2011-10-07

Donating money to people so they don't have to do their job sounds a lot like socialism, lady.

Fezren - 2011-10-07

It doesn't say "Don't allow gay people to get married." anywhere in the Bible. I know for a fact that it doesn't. It does, however, say "Submit yourself to every ordinance of man . . . to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors." - 1 Peter 2:13

These people who try to use religion as an excuse to perpetrate bigotry and deny others their legal rights are really creating a bad image for religious people in general.

SixDigitDebt - 2012-03-31

Help her protect her religious freedom....

...which includes her right to inflict her religion on others, apparently.

If you can't perform the duties of your station because of your religion, get a new job. Simple as that.
