Great Speeches Which Failed to Prevent Things That Wouldn't Matter in Ten Years Anyway week.

StanleyPain - 2011-10-09

Living through this was awesome, to a degree. The PMRC hearings were a disgrace but had two very, very satisfying moments: this one, where John Denver, who was expected to walk in and talk about how disgustingly immoral rock music was or whatever, totally defied expectations and then when Frank Zappa appeared only to be treated like some drugged-out, wasted roadie and then showing up the entire committee by not only giving eloquent, thorough answers, but also schooling them on music.

Candlejackv616 - 2011-10-09

at 5 seconds into this that senator had no fucking clue what was about to go down, which makes John's speech all the sweeter to watch XD

I'm surprised there's no "also his balls are huge tag" surely would have been appropriate.

RIP J.D.

Do we have a "better people" tag? If not, here would be a good time to start one up.

Even though the music industry self regulated its self and put the Parental Advisory stickers on naughty records it actually was a backfire for the Gores. Before the parental advisory an artist would ask "Can I say this?" After the parental advisories were made the artist would say "I can say this! I just need this little sticker on my record."

I have a more positive view of the PMRC these days since that was probably the last time a government committee stood up to a corporate entity. They did it for the wrong reasons, but the end result was probably a lot of nervous record executives.

Accidie - 2016-08-09

You remember fondly when our government was busy lecturing us on morality while selling all of us out in every other way conceivable. The PMRC was and should always be remembered as a pile of trash made out of garbage.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2011-10-09

I didn't care for his music but holy shit awesome guy.

RIP, I would have loved for you to live through the 2000s John Denver.

joelkazoo - 2011-10-09

The year before he died, he played at the WEFest Country Music Festival in Detroit Lakes, MN, and was so annoyed at all the people screaming "PLAY 'THANK GOD I'M A COUNTRY BOY!'" at him, he intentionally chose not to play it out of spite. I ask you all: was that a dick move?

poorwill - 2011-10-10

He should have started playing it, then lurched into Turkey in the Straw.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-10-10

I love this guy so so sooooooo much. I'm not ashamed!
