Ca$h for your Eye$.

pastorofmuppets - 2011-10-29

Starts out darkly funny, then overstays his welcome. Gil doesn't belong on the Simpsons, he is the Simpsons.

Cena_mark - 2011-10-29

I disagree. I think Gil first appeared when the Simpsons started going bad.
He was more of a cheap Lionel Hutz after Phil Hartman died.

TheDevilsDictionary - 2011-10-30

By my reckoning, it stopped being consistently good in season 8 and started being consistently bad around season 11.

Gil first showed up in season 8, I think, so that is pretty close to the mark.

I remember when I was young, My parents and I went to a used car place. The one salesman was essentially Gil in both appearance and behaviour his name was the similarily 3 lettered Jon I think. I met this guy before Gil made his appearance on the Simpsons and Gil has always reminded me of him. I don't know the point to this story other than Gil is an astoundingly accurate representation.

When I was shopping for a car, I ended up at a Chevrolet dealership where the salesman kept insisting that "the price was the price. we don't do deals." After it was clear that "the price" was unacceptably high, and him having no ability to negotiate on it, he simply went into pleading with me to buy the car. He went as far as telling me about his debt, and how he needed to make a sale.

I didn't buy a car from him.

spikestoyiu - 2011-10-30

And now he's dead. Great work.

StanleyPain - 2011-10-29

So that's what happened to Shelley Levene after all that Glengarry nonsense.

memedumpster - 2011-10-29

The person who sold me my car went on nonstop about being a cokehead. Gil seems strangely human for a car salesman.

fedex - 2011-10-30

from your syntax I assume you still bought the car from the cokehead

memedumpster - 2011-10-30

Hell yeah, and I still have it ten years later. Best car I ever owned hands down.

cognitivedissonance - 2011-10-31

My father is a used car salesman. Gil is as close to my father as network television gets, minus the 30 year plus homosexual philandering and chronic gambling fixation.

Mambazo - 2011-10-29

The sudden disconnect when the video gets to the newer seasons hits like a punch to the face.

Xenocide - 2011-10-29

Old seasons: Gil is this aging loser keeps losing his job.

New seasons: Gil is this aging loser who JUST GOT SHOT TO DEATH.

Xenocide - 2011-10-29

The sequence that starts at 00:52 is one of the funniest character bits the show ever did. Gil goes from incompetent to desperate to unfathomably pathetic in the course of a single minute. His reaction when his wife puts Fred on the phone serves as the perfect encapsulation of his sad, sad life.

spikestoyiu - 2011-10-30

Rotary cell phone.

kingofthenothing - 2011-10-31

What sucks for Gil even more is Fred's a co-worker. He skipped work that day, apparently, just to bang Gil's wife.

Riskbreaker - 2011-10-30

Nope, never liked the character, had like one or two good moments and that's it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-10-30

But if Gil doesn't get enough stars, his wife will leave him.

twinkieafternoon - 2011-10-30

C'mon Riskbreaker, you gotta help ol' Gil out, he's dying out here. Don't make Gil beg ya.
