Did i miss something or does this engine not have spark plugs? I understand a bit on how internal combustion engines work and don't they need spark plugs?

No gaskets or o-rings, let alone lubricant. It's gotta be air or something. (There's some hint of oil on the rods in one of the shots, but inconclusive, and it didn't show him making an oil pan or lubricating individual parts.)
Still, humans really amaze me sometimes.
